ikea is what ikea is...... it has some great stuff, but it really depends on your expectations and what you are after
I went into an IKEA for the first time ever yesterday. I didn't mind it. But then again, I like the 'warehouse' type of setting, packed full of a lot of stuff to browse over. And....for some reason, there seemed to be a lot of cute ladies packed into this place as well. It was difficult at times to focus on what I was trying to buy. So...yeah, thumbs up.
Oh, I had you and some of my friends in the Heights in mind when I posted my reply. However, did you notice that the small house samples that they had were also very vertical? Good luck spending any quality time with your wife on the bunk bed in the 277 sq.ft. sample. I was just saying that for a large percentage of their customers, the sample models aren't very applicable. I guess I'm a little tired of the IKEA style and prefer Eurway, although they don't have nearly the selection. [RANT ON] However, even with the huge store, IKEA often goes with the Ford Model A paradigm: you can have any color you want as long as it's black(pine). There's a bedframe that we like at IKEA, but they only have in "medium brown". Would it be too much to produce it in a nice cherry stain? [/END RANT]
[sarcasm] Just go get some ugly ass burled walnut desk from Ethan Allen to go with your matching filing cabinet, reproduction Mission-style desk lamp, black business phone and beige computer monitor. Put it in the 3rd guest bedroom of your 3500-square-foot McMansion in treeless suburbia with the beige windowless walls and cork board door along with the plastic mat so your faux-leather executive's chair doesn't damage the allergy free carpeting. And leave those of us with taste and style alone. [/sarcasm] Just channelling my inner stuck up urbanite.
You kidding? I bought all of my furniture at 6006 I-45 North between Tidwell and Parker. (I am being serious, BTW)
I remember when I was a kid, how the only things that were sold at Gallery Furniture were trailer park plaid couches and other furniture you wouldn't let your dog sleep on. After I moved back, I was at my folks' house, and saw a Gallery TV ad with all of this nice looking furniture on it. I turned to my Mom and asked "when did Mattress Mac become respectable?" And yes, I bought my stereo stand there. It holds my turntable, CD changer, dual cassette deck, receiver/amplifier, and 200 cassette tapes and VHS tapes quite nicely. I even shook Mac's hand while I was there.

Swedish furniture giant Ikea announced last week that the company would be bringing its second store to the Houston area, opening a massive store in Webster, at the Center at Baybrook. The Ikea store is slated to open by summer 2026, according to a release. The store joins Dick's Sporting Goods and a Hobby Lobby at the Center at Baybrook, just south of Baybrook Mall. "We are thrilled to continue our expansion across Texas to bring the dream of a better home within reach for more people across the country," said Javier Quiñones, the CEO and chief sustainability officer of Ikea U.S. "The opening of Ikea Webster highlights our commitment to bring Ikea closer to the many people and make it easier and more affordable to access our home furnishing products and solutions." Ikea has long been known for its affordable ready-to-assemble furniture and home goods, as well as its cafeterias. There are nearly 500 Ikea stores worldwide, with 76 in North America. The new Webster location will span 93,000 square feet and feature a space for customers to chat with design consultants and an area dedicated to the " Swedish food experience." The Webster Ikea will be the Swedish company's second full-size location in Houston, and its first in 22 years. The other full-size location is located at 7810 Katy Freeway, near the Hillshire Valley neighborhood in Northwest Houston. Texas has five other full-size locations, including stores in Round Rock and Frisco. There are also several pick-up and order stores throughout the state
I like walking around Ikea. I don't feel pressured to buy or the feel of getting a huge car loan to buy a bed.
The Ikea on the Katy Freeway is less than 4 miles East of Memorial High School. Either the author isn't familiar with Metro Houston or uses wildly different naming - labeling for areas of Houston than I do. Just because the Ikea is 5 miles or so North of the Galleria doesn't mean that it is in Northwest Houston.
