Stone needs to stick with drafting Bigs because he sucks in evaluating guards Josh Christopher Ty Ty Washington Jalen Green (traded our #2 pick within 4 years) Reed Sheppard will be gone next
You keep glossing over ball handling and playmaking. You realize Ben Simmons was a 3 time all star right? Reed cant shoot as well you act like he is Steph Curry. Bro can only make wide open 3s otherwise he is 0/4 like last game. Jalen Green got more favorable treatment as he never played as bad as Reed. 35% FG horrible on D at least Jalen would have like a month where he would play like a top 10 player Reed has 3 games out of 52. For all his faults Jalen has a high ceiling, no one can deny that dude won WCF player of the week several times so when he clicks, he can be a top 10-20 player. Reed is a midget with Trex arms, he is also unathletic af sure he can jump high but he can't move laterally is a traffic cone on defense and has to resort to gambling on steals. With a person like that, only way he can be a star is if he has unreal skill like a Kyrie or a Steph. He doesnt even have that lol, dudes a backup pg or mid tier starter at the very best. You are waiting for the guy just to be a good rotation player. Castle won RoY him and Reed are nowhere near comparable like heaven and earth.
Ben Simmons? You going with Ben Simmons? Roughly double the assists and rebounds? Significantly higher efg%? Primary ball handler? I'm not sure why you would compare shooting from someone with regular playing time to someone with 12 min a night as rookies. Reed has 279 attempts in his career. Jalen passed that January of his rookies year. So you wrote off Jalen by then, right? Jalen has no high ceiling as he already proved he couldn't reach it. Reed is still an unknow. By definition he has a much higher ceiling because we can rule out Jalen at this point. Literally no one wanted his contract for free. Phoenix got stuck with him.
"He doesnt even have that lol, dudes a backup pg or mid tier starter at the very best." Yes, like Castle.... backup or midtoer starter. Maybe Reed is just Alex Caruso. We won't know until he plays more. Castle is a dime a dozen wing defender. DFS has more value. Castle’s future will be on many different teams as stop gap player.
Caruso is an elite defender, his stamina is just limited that he can only go berserk for 25 minutes..... He is not a starter because of his lack of skills but because he cannot effectively play 40 minutes at the highest level. Reed is elite at not many things.......
This thread reminds me of those old Sengun threads where they said we needed to trade him for like Myles Turner or something.
Reed Sheppard is just the newest target of the Jalen Green fanbois. As always, they'll keep this up as long as they can then pretend they never said this embarrassing ****.
I will say this! Jalen did not reach his potential here but I still think he has room to develop, mainly because he was a product of AAU and then being coached by Silas for 2yrs. So, he only received 2yrs of quality coaching that I know of. Whereas, Reed has received quality coaching since he started playing basketball, bith his parents played basketball....thats a huge difference. My ONLY problem with Reed is he does not have one skill that stands out! If you're small in the NBA, its a MUST that you have at least one outstanding skill; be it handles, shooting, passing or speed. Aaron Brooks - speed and scoring Muggsey Bogues - speed, handles and defense Stockton - passing and shooting Curry - shooting and handles McConnell - toughness and scoring Mamoud Abdul - shooting and handles I think the uphill battle for Reed is that he doesnt have FOOT SPEED. He has hand speed but not foot speed. Today's game is more focused on wing players. Whereas players like Stockton and Mark Price, played in an era where most teams had centers and teams were playing at a slower pace. If you compare Reed to Jabari and why Reed need that one outstanding skill. Both were brought here for their SHOOTING. However, if Jabari's shot is off, he still provides defense, and rebounding. If Reed's shot is off, what else does he provide?
Sengun has never been as bad as Reed has been. That said, guards (particularly small ones) are the slowest players to develop.
Guys like TJ McConnell and JJ Redick had it much easier, they practically knew what they were at the Draft. No more second guessing of what more they could become.....fantasies..... JJ Redick was a movement shooter, TJ McConnell was a high motor, spark plug off the bench.
Bro Sengun was an 18 yr old MVP in Euro league. Reed shot 50% in college on low attempts against bad teams and flopped in march madness. Those 2 are not alike at all. Sengun always had potential you never become an 18 yr old MVP in Turkey league if you suck. Arent you the guy who bet me 100 usd Reed will beat Jalen? We'll see next year so far 0/2 in favor of Jalen.
Early in Sengun's career when he was being horribly mismanaged there were the usual suspects saying the same dumb **** about him that they now say about Sheppard..... now imagine how Sengun would have looked if you cut those rookie minutes by more than half. That's what Sheppard has had to deal with. With both, those who know what they are seeing can see the skills, it's just a matter if time and opportunity until it all falls in place.
How do you know Green couldnt reach his ceiling? At least it is there. Reed has no ceiling. He is struggling to even be in the rotation. Ime playing him 20 mins a night guarantee Aaron Holiday or JD would have been more effective last 4 games. What has Reed shown other than beating up GLeague and those 3 games against opponents who dont care? Caruso? Caruso is an elite defender and above average 3 pt shooter, something Reed isnt yet and prob never will be. As for Reeds low attempts, thats what happens when you shoot 35% FG and below 0.500 TS. You are right, if Green had those nos I would have written him off too. Thank god he never had those nos. Instead he had nos like 54% TS which is much higher than Reed.
It is even worse for Reed now as everyone is getting big pgs and wings, 6'6 pgs are in vogue and even SGs are getting taller as well. He is trending to be a vet min player like Aaron Holiday.
Seriously...I remember all that bullsht stuff theyve said about sengun...even the first year with Ime, calling for Sengun to get benched. Fans will be fans who thinks they know it all, but 99.9% of the time we're just bullshting. But that's the good thing about being fans. You can get frustrated and say the wildest things, but at least it wont really affect anything.
Look, Reed has to improve a lot. Better defense and a consistent 3 pointer would be great. But Jalen Green sucks.
