Reed has been disappointing, but Castle isnt anything either. He would be torched here now if he was playing for the Rockets.

That's because the other team would inevitably force him to shoot and he'd miss. The Spurs actually let him do what he's decent at and let him learn from his mistakes. He would not be doing that here and his leash would be shorter than a shoe string.

The people who want Reed traded and the people who wanted to give Jalen Green more time are a flat circle.

But, what I’m saying is that expectations are too high for many of these young players, not just Reed. Sure, some players are good from the very beginning of their NBA careers, but many are not. Expectations have changed by the fans.

I think some of the problems we are seeing with Reed is that we are asking him to do something he didn’t really do in his one year of college, be the primary ball handler and run the offense. I think he has some of the physical tools to do the job, but it’s the mental part that he is struggling with.

Also, it should be noted that almost all point guards take about four years to ramp up to their full potential. And many of these players had already been playing as a pure point guard before being drafted.

So, I think is some ways Reed has been saddled with some unrealistic expectations by the fans. We would all like to see some rapid development since we need a sure handed guard that can shoot the ball, and we are in win now mode. But, we may have to wait awhile for Reed to be able to do everything we want him to do.

They shouldn’t be compared AT ALL but here we are.

Reed is poverty Mac McClung at this point but there is still time. I have the same dunk package as Reed unfortunately.

....have you been around the witness the last 4 years of top draft picks for this team? Or any team for that matter? Cade Cunningham, the #1 overall pick who was touted as "cant miss" led his Pistons squad in his second year to an NBA record losing streak.

I don't see it. He can't shoot. There are tons of wings who play defense and can do 50% from 2.

Reed has about half a season of playing time under him.

If only Jalen Green was given such treatment...

Compare Castle to Edgcome so far...

Similar draft position, age, and role.

Edgecombe so far superior in every way.

I wanted matas buzselis. I thought he had highest upside. Another blown pick by stone.

The spurs #2 and #3 lineup last year were with Castle but swapping Victor with Biyombo.

They go from +8 to -6.6

Castle is maybe 3rd or 4th best player on a good team. Weakest ROY since maybe Evans.

Well, I think it's fair given similar skill set and body type.

No different than comparison of any other young player to a star.

I'm not seeing anything special yet... looks like poor man's Markkanen with worse rebounding...

I mean, we drafted poor man's JJ Redick with no shooting...

I still remember some people said Cade was a bust during his first two seasons.

Ah yes another combo forward. Gotta catch 'em all, right?

    ( @SamFisher )

I know you don't draft for need, but I don't see where the minutes would have even come from for Matas here.

Reed made sense at the time. The other option would have been to trade back, and that could have been a solid value play in a draft that was very even throughout the lotto, but those deals are always difficult to make pencil out, and we don't know what the offers were, if any.

The best thing Stone could have done in that spot was trade it to the Spurs who apparently wanted Sheppard for their 25 pick and ended up with Dylan Harper or Edgecombe.

If you know how that works out now, so would they and not do that.

When was the last time the Spurs dealt with Houston, I can only think of Scola and that should be 2 decades ago....

Basically to prop up Jalen Green and the non selection of Mobley and Barnes.
