Do you mean two unprotected firsts from Portland or from us? Remember that due to his player option, any trade involving FVV would require his consent. Their PG rotation is also really shallow right now with Dame and Scoot both out; Scoot should be back by 12/15 but who knows what he will look like then. More importantly, Jrue will make $35m next year and has a player option for $37m the year after. I'm pretty sure that nukes our cap planning...
Don't forget that in any lopsided trade (2-1 or 3-1) that they will also have to fill those empty roster spots - teams have to have at least 14 players on the roster with the exception of being able to drop to 13 for no more than two weeks. Those dollars have to be accounted for when factoring in matching salary. It really makes the math complicated. I do think Coby White makes the most sense from a cap standpoint for the Rockets - after December 15th when they can package Tari & Capela and have room left over to fill that 14th spot with a minimum deal. There's 4-5 other players in that price range but who knows if they are on the market or not - 2025 Point Guard Cap Hit Rankings
If it's me, I'm waiting to the trade deadline to see where Boston (White), LA (Reaves), and Miami (Herro) are in the standings before I pivot to Portland (Holiday). I feel like you can get Jrue whenever you want.
Schroder is a little expensive at $14.1m - you'd have to package Reed and one of Tari or Capela to make the money work and fill the 14th roster spot.
Yeah I'm not sure I'd make that trade tbh. We do really seem to have very few options at all, even if we discount the pointless exception we can't use, who even is going to be obtainable without us sending too much of what we don't want to send out?
Neither Reed, nor Tari would be moved for a guy like Schroeder, in my opinion. Certainly not together.
From portland. If the rockets take on a toxic contract like jrue or fox you have to get a ton back for it.
To get any of these players back, you have to send out about $900k more salary than you are taking back because you have an extra roster spot to fill because you are sending out 2 players in exchange for 1 and you have to fill that roster spot within 2 weeks. Explain to me why FVV approves a trade which causes him to lose his bird rights - He has absolutely no incentive to do so. You can't trade the guy. So, for any of these other names we're talking about, we have to use other contracts. The only guys on the roster that aren't Amen, Sengun, Jabari, Durant, Adams and make more than the minimum are Reed, Tari, Capela & DFS .... who people have been reluctant to add to trades. Jrue Holiday is $32.4m - you can't make that without FVV. Derrick White is $28.1m - Ditto. Dennis Schroder is $14.1m Coby White is $12.9 Dylan Harper - $12.3m (really think SA is gonna help you?) Davion Mitchell is $11.6m Scoot Henderson is $10.8m You have the following contracts to make the money work and have 14 players under contract. DFS $12.7m Reed $10.6m Capela $6.7m Tari $5.6m Tate - minimum - $2,296,274 Holiday - minimum Okogie - minimum Green - minimum Have at it - bring back a point guard and fill 14 roster spots while staying below $194,945,000 in total salary. You currently have $193,689,412 in salary.
You guys are too obsessed with theory snd not looking at reality. Rox just scored 139 pts, 137 pts, 111, 124 We dont need a pg we need better perimeter defense which is hopefully what DFS brings. We are already scoring more than we ever did last year the problem is we cant stop guys on D and prior to this game had a hard time outrebounding opponents.
I wonder if we can get Nemhard from the Pacers. He's on a good contract coming off the bench and Pacers need a backup center. He's a good defender at 6'5 and should be able to play point for us just fine until FVV comes back. Pacers are so desperate for a competent big they even tried out Wiseman. I think they'll love Clint in return. We'd have to give up Reed in return and Pacers would probably love him since they aren't in serious contention this year anyways with Hali out for the season. Reed would fit well in their high paced offense that jacks up a bunch of 3s.
At this point, I’m not sure we need a PG. We’re averaging almost 130 points a game and we will likely continue to improve as this group plays more together.
Is there any way the Rockets can trade for Austin Reeves without losing KD, Sengun, Jabari, Amen, Adams? Austin Reeved would be the perfect fit.
