The criticism and insinuations about the team were pretty bad, especially this week. Probably overboard. This is what I think ticked off Demeco. He's also correct in saying writers prefer negative stories because they generate more clicks and views. But he blows it by saying "nobody" wants to talk about positive stuff when it happens. By exaggerating, he leaves himself open to accusations of exactly what he accuses the media of. Not a good look for him, but also not the first time a head football coach unfairly vented during a presser.
Your team was 2-4. That’s how your team came out after a bye. You’re still 3-4. … “Why isn’t the media more positive?” Spoiler Demeco: game plan was hands on JSN. Stingley: game plan was to play off. I never deviate from the game plan or do my own thing. NOIISSSEEEE!
Houston sports “personalities” who no one knows get all offended like whiny little b****es when the coach states the obvious (while sticking up for his team) about the nature of sports media (and fans). Hey idiot, whoever you are, no one wants to see you get into a “debate” with coach about how fair your coverage is. This isn’t your Twitter account, it’s a press conference where you aren’t the focus. “You guys good?” - perfect ignore the troll response from Demeco, I’m impressed.
We should know by DEC 7th how good we really are. We have 5 games between top 10 ranked teams between now and then. So far we have lost to the 2 teams ranked in the top 10, but only by a little bit. Tampa Bay only beat us by 1 PT, and the Rams only beat us by 5. We have to be more aggressive in the red zone, and stop settling for field goals. I'm hoping we start incorporating more QB sneaks, or 1 to 2 yard attempts on 4th down in the red zone. No guts, no glory.
To be fair, this was the press clapping back at DeMeco disparaging them. But I agree, better to just ignore it.
QB Sneak vs Seattle and a missed tackle vs Bucs away from being 5-2. (Not excusing Texans — the screwed those plays up … it’s just such a frustrating game).
I heard the press conference, and I think Landry and DJ completely misunderstood what DeMeco was trying to say, which is that people are more inclined to print/read negative stories because those draw more attention. And he's right! Check this forum after win v. a loss - drastically different. But Ryans wasn't complaining; he didn't say anything was unfair. So the ones who got defensive were Landry and DJ, who wanted to press him on a subject he wasn't really speaking to - he never said he wasn't treated fairly or the press hasn't been positive. He said negative stories draw more attention. Again, HE'S RIGHT! To imply more than that is Landry (who's a moron and desperate to be part of any story despite possessing an IQ of 12) and DJ trying to make something out of nothing.
It was the QB sneak that we didn't run at the goal line against Tampa that also cost us. We should be 4-3. I don't see how we could have beaten Seattle, we got dominated.
Darrell Taylor, Christian Harris, and Pierce all seem like reasonable trade chips that might get us some safety depth or some other need. I keep hearing teams need pass rush and we got some to spare. give em Taylor.
