Man, what a hell of a game for CJ, he stood tall in the pocket and did not flinch when he was about to get hit...............gonna celebrate the win this week and hold my breath on Sunday, the Broncos are legit but we seem to have a different swagger at home, the D was ELITE yesterday and the run game was just good enough to have the D sell out on the pass. 15 days off and we lay an egg and a short week and we do this, was Seattle a one off??? Were about to find out
What we saw yesterday was a bit of a sign of how important it is to spread the ball out to multiple guys. Stroud was locking in on Nico vs Seattle quite a bit. Issue was that he was constantly being bracketed by the CB and LB for quick throws in the middle of the field. It caused a ton of issues. What made CJ special in college is that yes he had dudes at every skill position, but he didn't lock in on guys. Against the 49'ers he had to go through reads and play PG. I hope.... that the organization and Caley are able to really preach via film on how important it is to play PG instead of feed the go to guy. If he continues to do so, teams will be forced to play more zone and concepts that allow Nico to get 1 v 1's for big plays. HUGE step in the right direction. Remember BOB tried to do this for Watson in his last season. The Hopkins trade was for Watson to play PG. I am highly encouraged as this is the same defense that Salah used in NY to have Stroud play some of his worst games as a pro. People point to the injured 49'ers defense. Stroud is missing Nico, Tank, Stover, Brevin Jordan, Joe Mixon. That is WR 1, WR 2, RB 1, TE 2, TE 3. Our offense is playing backups too. That shouldn't get lost. That is now 3 wins in the last 4 games. All 3 wins by double digits. They may be turning it around.
CJ doesn't need elite weapons he needs time. Yesterday he was throwing to rookies and journeymen. It was a questionable decision for caserio to draft WRs when he could have traded up for offensive line talent.
I made a comment that maybe CJ needs the Josh Allen (Tom Brady) treatment? Get rid of the notable WRs to help him play better
The last sentence is a big part of the problem, in addition to most of the time looking for the big play instead of taking the checkdowns that are open. He needs to know that 2-3 times a game a broken tackle on those checkdowns will lead to big plays. This has nothing to do with the coaching he's been coached to take the checkdowns. Meco has said as much when he talks about CJ getting the ball out quicker.
You cant Scheme around a weak IOL. Andrews is basically a rookie C. He's started 8 games, growing pains should be expected. Agreed about Mixon.
No. However for a QB to succeed, coaching and scheme accelerates development. Mahomes has Andy Reid from the start and basically was allowed to sit a year and learn. Brady was also allowed to sit a year and learn. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BradTo00.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MannPe00.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MahoPa00.htm Go look at Brady’s 1st 6 seasons and Mannings 1st 5 seasons. Their stats are consistent but not WOW ( Manning did have 1 great season in the sandwiched in between 2 above average seasons. Mahomes’ 1st 5 seasons were incredible in comparison. Mayfield has a very good rookie year and 2 out of his 3 other years in Cleveland were ok, but not good enough for the Browns. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MayfBa00.htm Stafford: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/StafMa00.htm Goff: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GoffJa00.htm Stroud: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/StroCJ00.htm Stroud ‘s stats vs Goffs’ (without having a McVeigh) and Stafford’s early career (without having Megatron to throw to….with the 41 TD season as an outlier). QBs can develop at different rates based on the situation. So many young QBs go to bad teams/situations and it r****ds their development. Even with everything, Stroud is ahead of the curve because he came into the league so young.
Brady had a ring by leading a drive to a GW FG SB win in year 2 Manning was good and improving but not as good as Brady. Baker played well, then hurt his shoulder. Goff is a good comparison but even with Fisher he was further along in his development than CJ is. Staaford isn't a good comparison if you consider he played for the Lions. Hope you're right about this happening because CJ's young. But this is year 3 what will you be saying in year 5? I hope what I saw in CJ coming out of college and his scouting report is wrong. The book on CJ coming out of college was he doesn't handle being pressured well and so far the reports appear to be accurate.
There is a difference between pressure and what CJ has faced in the last 2 seasons. Historically Bad pressure rates. This is where having a good OC scheming up an offense. All those QBs actual had that, even the Lions. There is reason nationally the narrative is about the Oline. The TD to X had pressure but it was also a good route. That throw CJ made was elite. Just give him Some time to throw. Brady won SB early because of a Super Bowl winning coach (as a DC) created an Elite Defense. But Brady also had competent OC Charlie Weis.
Mahomes is a good player. He got his timeline accelerated by playing with the best situation in football history. Look at his stats this year. A 3rd of his TD's are from the jet sweep pass pitch he does. It is extremely crucial for CJ to get a coordinator capable of supporting him.
Jesus, now we’re knocking Mahomes to prop up CJ? If you have to knock players better than our QB to make him look better, that’s a problem
