They didnt tank they just got lucky/NBA been gifting them top picks for no reason. They have won the odds for their top picks iirc.
You are correct, there absolutely has to be that in play. But you also must not be paying attention to the spurs scouting and organization, they have repeatedly come out and say they draft around generational talents etc. They knew to tank and put all their hopes around wemby more than 5 years before he was drafted
But they didnt even tank to get Wemby we had higher odds than them we are the one who tanked to get Wemby. If they had plans to tank around Wemby as a 5 yr plan they should all be fired for being extremely incompetent since they spent 5 yrs preparing and didn't even get the best odds to get him. Its all luck/corruption like when Cavs got Lebron or Mavs get Cooper Flagg. Jus cuz they got Wemby doesnt mean they are some giga brain mastermind the odds just landed on them for like 3 yrs straight. Utah is the opposite you've got a team that just cant get a top 3 pick no matter what Ainge does.
Every time I watch Wemdy play I'm hoping I don't have to watch a catastrophic injury with bones sticking out of weird places. Dude looks like he's going to shatter.
For anyone who's ever played basketball enough to see a few serious injuries, I think he is literally hard to watch. It might even diminish is star power. I just can't watch him except for a few highlight clips.
LeBron to Cavs, Rose to Bulls, Cavs getting #1 after Bron leaves, Pelicans getting #1 after Davis leaves, Mavs getting #1 after Luka leaves Its a coincidence
It looks weird when he moves. It’s displeasing to mine eyes. It’s even disturbing at times, like that horror movie trope of people’s body contorting in weird ways when they’re possessed or whatever.
Yeah my god this guy is getting an MVP soon. Just saw him do 2 blockd & then calmly lead the break into a pull-up 27 foot 3, he is insane https://bsky.app/profile/stevejones20.bsky.social/post/3m44n76wzrc2q Spurs i regret to say have surged way ahead of us - they look fantastic so far
Are we the most unlucky in near misses on draft picks recent years? Could’ve had Chet / Banchero, Wemby, Mobley / Cade if only we had won one of those fricking drafts where we were the worst team alive.
They also got perfect complements to Wemby, Castle Harper and Bryant all good sidekicks for him. Spurs look fantastic and way better sooner than anyone expected. I still believe Wemby will be injury prone eventually though. No way 7'6 can move like that without something going wrong..
Utah But yeah Rox are pretty unlucky. You know people are saying 2026 is even more goated than 2025 and 2027 is worse than 2024? Guess which draft we have multiple picks/swaps? lol Cade is a bonafide superstar and we def missed that but Chet/Banchero/Mobley nah I'm good with Jabari. Mobley is extremely overpaid, Banchero has a ceiling as a No 1 and Chet is injury prone. I wouldnt csll these 3 superstars but they are all making super max extensions. Wemby is amazing but at 7'6 and still growing he wont have a long and healthy career. I still rather have Amen. At the end what really hurt us is Reed Sheppard looking like a backup pg role player. Thats basically losing a top 3 pick for nothing. JG could have been a loss but we converted him to KD.
