Newsom's parents split up when he was 2 and he was raised by a single mother. He largely saw his father during the summers. His mother was not wealthy, worked two or three jobs at a time to make ends meet, and was sometimes on food stamps. Just because his dad was rich, doesn't mean Gavin Newsome didn't struggle financially at home as a child.
