I have also lived in many areas (though none outside of the US, yet), but the only place I've had any issue with crime was in my hometown of Houston, TX. Burglary, twice, and a near mugging that I escaped. Not trying to jinx self, but just saying.

I lived for a summer in Chicago and had a wonderful time, day and night.

I wonder why they don't go to the "bad" part of town? I would think if there were illegal gang members that's where they would be.................but then again that's not really what this is about

There are Hispanic gangs in 3-4 neighborhoods in Chicago - the Latin Kings being the biggest one. They also are violent, but most of them are US citizens and most of the gang violence in Chicago is from black gangs in places like Garfield Park and Washington.

This is similar to my experience as well. I never really didn't feel safe in Houston -- but I did not realize that it was safer other areas until I moved. Yes, the worst part of Chicago is worse than any place in Houston -- but that is a small area, and the reality is that like 90% of Chicago is as safe as any part of Western or Northern Europe.

In Houston, I loved the place and would move back if it worked out that way - but it isn't as safe as Chicago, Boston and parts of California I have lived.

Yes, +1 on Houston. I didn't mean to run down my home town. I love so much about it. But anecdotally, the crime experience was real. So random and not necessarily statistically meaningful.

The funny thing is majority of Americans have no idea how dangerous their cities are in comparison to European cities. Ive been a victim of violent crime multiple times living in downtown Houston but while living in Denmark I feel safe even leaving my door unlocked.

Denmark is going to be safer than just about any major or minor city in the USA. Rape and petty theft is what you have to worry about in a lot of the nicer parts of Europe.

I have lived in a number of places - have very seldom not felt safe. I did not feel entirely safe at one point in the late 1990's living in Los Angeles, the apartment I was at was pretty bad. I also did not feel safe alone in the Protestant neighborhoods in Northern Ireland because I was very obviously Catholic. I didn't worry about being shot though, it was mostly the fear or being beaten by a crowd and perhaps cut.

DC police officer says he was ordered to omit agent shooting at a driver in traffic stop report
MPD officer said in court he was told by ‘team leader’ not to disclose details of a federal agent firing at a man in his car

A Washington DC police officer made the stunning admission that he was told to omit from a report the fact that a federal agent fired multiple times at a driver during a traffic stop.

The officer’s admission comes amid a series of shootings involving federal agents deployed to cities under the Donald Trump administration. It also reflects a broader pattern in which charges brought by federal agents are often dismissed once they reach court.

Last week, Metropolitan police department (MPD) officer Jason Sterling testified in court that he had been instructed by a “team leader” not to disclose details of a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent firing three times at a man, Phillip Brown, in Washington DC during a traffic stop earlier this month, according to the man’s lawyer, Quo Mieko S Judkins, Washington City Paper first reported.

According to Sterling’s affidavit which the outlet reviewed, he and another officer, Divonnie Powell, were patrolling with federal agents from Customs and Border Protection, the Diplomatic Security Service, Marshal Service, the FBI and HSI.

At one point, officers noticed Brown’s car “traveling at a normal speed”, but switching lanes a few times “just as officer Sterling activated the emergency equipment to affect [sic] a traffic stop”, the outlet reported.

Sterling and Powell thought Brown might try to flee, so they “moved out of the way to allowed [sic] the supporting federal partners to stop the vehicle”, according to Sterling’s affidavit.

Without mentioning the shooting in the affidavit, Sterling wrote: “The engine to the Dodge SUV revved and start [sic] advancing towards officers that were on foot and ultimately struck the rear of the Rav4. The driver and sole occupant of the Dodge SUV was removed from the vehicle and detained. The driver … was placed under arrest and transported to the 6 District Station for processing.”

Similarly, in Powell’s public incident report, there was no mention of the shooting. Instead, the report simply said that “officers observed a white in color Durango with heavily tinted windows bearing no front tag affixed to the front of the vehicle.

“Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle due to the traffic violation at which time S-1 disregarded and continue [sic] [to] flee from officers. During the course of S-1 fleeing, S-1 used the vehicle to ram another vehicle and attempted to flee. S-1 was arrested and transported to Sixth District for processing,” he added.

Brown was charged with a felony of fleeing from law enforcement.

According to Judkins, an HSI officer fired at Brown during the encounter. Although none of the bullets hit him, two went through his passenger seat and another tore near his jacket’s collar.

“It is shocking to me that someone was almost killed over a missing front license plate,” Judkins told Washington City Paper, adding: “He was nearly killed during this encounter, which the court found lacked probable cause for any criminal charge.”

"How's this, Mr. Bovino? Is this what you were thinking?" (holds up newly tailored overcoat)

"That's Lord Bovino to you. And no, this will not do! It needs to look more like this..." (holds out comic book with Victor von Doom) ... "plus this..." (holds out archival photo of Göring).

I was at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Chicago .... it was set up like a military compound with massive jail fencing around it, sand-bags and barbed wired like the type used on prisons lined the adjacent building as well. There were also ICE marked vehicles (yes there are some) parked on the side of the road in a make shift parking area where there used to be a traffic lane.... all of this in the heart of downtown Chicago.

Nothing like entering into a massive sized building downtown that looks like something from a third world military zone.

These ICE agents are pure evil, how can they do that to fellow Americans, I get it you work for king trump, but why do you act like a dick. I have no doubt when they were hired they told them to be cruel as hell................I imagine most of these thugs were already racists and this job is their wet dream.

We probably can't say all ICE agents are evil, and we have to realize that we're seeing the clips of some of the worst ICE agents, but all that said: If an individual has racist leanings, and if he doesn't have a lot of skills aside from COD, and this regime dangles a signing bonus the likes of which that person has never seen in his entire couch-bound life... well, you have to think he might be signing up for ICE before a normal, more decent and more skilled person would be signing up. Yeah. That's part of the point of this whole exercise, if you're someone like S. Millar.

I try not to assume anything about any one individual, but that kind of scenario has to be in the backs of our minds each time we run into one of these overly-geared cosplay dudes wearing high-arid-scrubland camo on an urban sidewalk.

The military police state has only just begun. What in the hell does it take to impeach this lying crazy man?

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One during his trip to Asia, the president said he could send the "Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines," and "anybody I wanted" into U.S. cities, and would do so "if I thought it was necessary."

"If I thought it was necessary" isn't good enough.

He's already made up lies about cities burning down, people eating cats and dogs, and crime being out of control when it isn't happening. So....he knows he can make up a the next big lie, get support from his loyalists in his administration, and send in the military to any city that he simply wants to terrorize. He's setting the stage for worse things to come and his spineless enablers need to grow a pair, and impeach his ass for abuse of power and corruption!
