I don’t particularly like it more less than any other genre. It’s more if the movie is good and to what extent. Often horror is pretty bad but can be centered on a unique premise. Think Nightmare on Elm Street or It Follows being unique but in my opinion good.
The premise and "world" of the show comes straight from the book, which was [checks notes] written a few decades before Stranger Things Who's been ripping off who, now? Quality rant, though
And the Duffer bros freely admit to being influenced by King. Will this be better than Stranger Things, probably not. But I suspect it's going to be better than the It movies.
My point was that this particular show probably got greenlit a lot faster than it would have if Stranger Things had not been a thing.
Felt like a kids show for kids. I wish I were ten! Well….not really wanting to be ten again now in this world.
Reminder that the original IT destroyed a whole heck of a lot of kids that are my age who grew up in the 90’s. However if you watch it now you realize how garbage some of the effects and the acting was. So yeah I think it’s on brand for the IT world for sure. However I think it was very bold storytelling to say the least. To me though it’s all about the characters in this type of show and we’ll see how it pans out with the next episode there since… you know. Regardless if it’s good Stephen King or cheesy 90’s network tv mini series Stephen King, it’s always a good thing when these shows or movies are made. The town of Derry alone is worth exploring. Also yeah glad I grew up when I did. I have a ten year old myself and know what you mean.
Yeah, nice little misdirect there because it really felts like the pilot was introducing its main cast but not so much......
