To me this is another excuse. And the only reason Im saying that is because, if a player has it, he has IT! The only player that I have seen who has been this inept early on, then turn into a productive player was Chauncey Billups....Yes, that Chauncey Billups.

Chauncey was a Top 5 draft pick, he had size, he had handles and he was good defensively. The only trait Reed has is shooting and at best he's inconsistent. He doesn't pass well, he doesn't have good size, he doesn't play defense. So, as you can see, he has a lot of deficiencies to overcome.

If he had good handles and a good shot, I would DEFINITELY be for giving him time to develop.

I would go back and read my post again. You basically agreed with me on everything while saying you only agreed with one thing.

How long would you typically be willing to give a young player before giving up? Castle was horrific last season, should the spurs have given up? Sarr was the worst player in history by some metrics early on, should the wiz have waived him or played some crap g leager? Jabari was beyond awful early on, would you have given up on him as well?

Just that expecting him to be the PG this yr was asking too much, when he never showed PG traits

Why would I give up on Reed at this point? Seems a bit of an emotional response?

He hasn't been good, but I don't see that as a reason to give up on him. That doesn't mean I am against benching him or even trading him for the right player... but give up on him?

Does Reed have an memorable games last season that he didn't start? I know Ime stop playing him eventually but he played at least half the games and I can't remember one memorable game he played off the bench and contributed. Meanwhile you all these rookies this season having huge games .Hell Kon Kneuppel who was his draft comp this year already looks like the much better player.

Well Castle was great this year and Jabari drastically improved from his rookie year so impatient people didnt have to wait long for those two.

How long do we need to wait for Reed? Personally if Kings wanna trade Dennis S and Devin Carter for Reed I'd do it. Kings are going nowhere and dont need a veteran like Dennis S and we need somebody who can contribute now.

He had 3 good games out of 52.

KK is 6'6, being 5 inches taller with longer wingspan does a lot for you. If Reed was 6'6 with 6'9 wingspan no doubt in my mind he would have been ROY last year and trending towards stardom.

A lot of you are still in denial but Reed is a certified bust.

That's the point, the spurs with castle, the rockets with jabari gave them a chance and didn't immediately quit on them. Castle has played about 3.25 times the minutes reed has played. Should the spurs have given up on him after 700 minutes? Jabari played even more than that and was even worse than rookie reed but the rockets didn't give up on a 20 year old.

I want to see constant improvement for Reed through the first 1000 minutes he plays this season. If he gets 20-25 minutes a game, this will put the season near the all-star break/trade deadline. If he gets the 20-25 minutes a game, then we should know where Reed is headed. I think he looks better than last year, but he has to start hitting his runners/layups and stop picking up his dribble. I see the progress, but he is in the first mile of a thousand mile journey.

It feels to me like Reed is getting undue criticism - or expectations are out of wack for a 20 year old learning how to play the PG position.

Some of it feels race related as well.

They also get 2x the recognition than the other colored players if they pan out. You live with the good and the bad.

Nash's Double MVP was not without criticism......

Pretty much just want him to shoot and make threes. Anything else he does this year is gravy, but we didn’t draft him because we liked his handle, or ability to direct offense.

Out on ultimate development? Not really. I just want a reasonable expectation for who he is now and this season. I don’t think he’s got the goods to be a defacto PG and trying to force the issue takes away from what brought him to the dance.

Just make threes. A lot of them.

On defense, he’s an extreme case.

He has great hands and anticipation, making him surprisingly elite at steals and deflections for his size.

But his lateral quickness is just god awful, almost center-level by eye test, which lets almost any decent ball-handler drive past him with ease.

Those great hands don’t cancel out that weakness. And unless he can somehow improve that quickness (which isn’t easy), he’ll need to be elite in shot-making and playmaking to stay playable long-term.

It's far too early to give up on Reed. However, I don't like how much he's been targeted on the defensive end. That's going to make it very hard to justify keeping him on the floor even if he's a sniper.
