OK, so there has to be some vet steady hand PG somewhere in the league we can get for Reed + matching salary and picks who plays for a tanking team who needs young talent to gamble on?
Yup it’s gotta be a priority. This team would look completely different with a capable point guard. I’ve had my fair share of criticism on FVV, but a steady pg that can handle the ball is sorely missing, his defense would also be a plus. would be 2-0 with FVV and blew out the pistons
Not sure the Rockets would give up on Reed so early. That said, most of the good veteran PGs are on contenders and the young PGs on bad teams still have upside (would cost a lot).
He's on a 10m contract is all, we don't have many other options we can actually trade that would create enough space to bring much back. I'd love to give him time to develop, we don't have it if this is supposed to be a potential championship year. Or we're just sacrificing the season for a year of development on somebody who's not really looked like he'd justify it.
Rockets aren't sacrificing the season. Sengun, Durant, Amen matter more. I'd rather FVV be healthy as he makes team stronger. I just don't see Rockets giving up. If Rockets make a trade for a PG, it will likely involve DFS, Adams, or Capela bbefore Reed.
If we run with Reed without getting a real PG yes, the Rockets are absolutely sacrificing the season.
The worst takes on this board were those saying FVV was trash and holding us back. These people don’t know basketball. They only know highlights. A floor general that doesn’t turn the ball over is exactly what this team needs. And FVV can hit those touch layups that Reed keeps bricking.
But this board told me that Fred’s loss was addition by subtraction and that he was holding Amen back.
Amen's clearly a secondary playmaker right now and not a lead guard. He's not as bad as Reed but he's certainly not even average as a PG in the NBA just yet.
In last year’s first game we lost to the Charlotte Hornets. FVV’s line was 37m, 4-18 fg, 2-11 3 pt, 14 pts, 6 assists. We scored 105 points against the frickin’ Charlotte Hornets. FVV was one of the worst offensive PG’s in the league last year. He is not the reason our offense sucks. His absence has encouraged Ime to run Adams as our starting center and Sengun as our starting PF. Not having a PG is not this team’s problem. Playing zone defense and having our center play out of position and not having a decent SG rotation is our issue. We are also only 2 games into the season. We were 1-2 in our first 3 games last year against the Hornets, Memphis, and the tanking Spurs. You guys are ridiculous with this FVV worship.
I think they wait until December 15 and package Tari with Capela. They'd do it now if they could, but Capela can't be aggregated until then. The other thing is, if they aggregate contracts in a 2-1 or 3-2 type trade, they have to take back less salary than they send out so they have the ability to fill the 14th roster spot as NBA rules require 14 players under contract. It's gonna take some cap gymnastics to make a trade for a point guard, unless it's a simple 1-1 trade which really limits the pool of potential targets.
