As with all things Trump, the problem tends to be more about the means than the ends. Trump defenders are arguing the ends -- 'but we really could use a ballroom at the White House!' -- and ignoring the means. In this case, the means is: Trump doesn't give a **** about your opinion or mine; not only did he not ask, he perpetrated an ambush demolition to avoid unsolicited feedback too. He might do a great job and the White House might be better off for it. But doesn't it bother the MAGA at all that he is making such an important change to a national landmark with no consideration of how the American people feel about it?

Huge upgrade to a stale and outdated area of the White House for zero taxpayer dollars. And the liberals are still mad! These people have problems!

    GOOD DAY

Let’s just hope Trump got to Home Depot in time to snag one of those big-ass Halloween lawn skeletons

Multiple Snopes users searched our website for information about White House renovations under Obama.

The renovations under Obama did take place. Both CNN and Bloomberg News reported in 2010 about a four-year, $376 million White House renovation project beginning during his presidency.

However, many social media posts omitted key context: Congress approved the funding in 2008 following a report by the administration of then-President George W. Bush, and the renovations aimed to upgrade the building's aging infrastructure, according to the news reports.
It's misleading to suggest Obama personally "spent" $370 million on White House renovations, as some posts claimed, as Congress approved the project's funding during Bush's time in office.

What Bloomberg News and CNN reported
A Bloomberg News report published in The Philadelphia Inquirer on May 22, 2010, noted that a four-year, $376 million White House renovation project had begun, stating that its purpose was to "improve the infrastructure in the East and West Wings."

According to the report, workers would be "replacing decades-old heating, cooling, electrical, and fire-alarm equipment," as well as "unspecified security systems."

I really don't care about Trump's ballroom. I don't like that it is being financed by billionaire donors, but whatever........ my larger question is why can't MAGA be completely honest about anything anymore? Why be deceptive about literally everything.

That's how he is with everything.

The HOW matters. But to MAGA and TRUMP....doesn't matter.

    ABC News:

    1. Notice how the cost keeps going up? it was originally $200 million. This thing will hit a billion-plus before it is close to being done and we will end up paying for it--as well as the inevitable kickbacks.

    2. Not only the East Wing, but the Jackie Kennedy Garden and numerous historic trees, including the Warren G. Harding Memorial magnolia, the FDR Memorial magnolia, and a Yoshino Cherry tree planted during the Biden Presidency to commemorate peace with Japan.

    3. Of course, this was all done outside the proper process and with no public input. We all recognize that if any other president had done something like this, it would be the end of their presidency, but the Republican Congress is so neutered and the right-wing media circle-jerk is so subservient that nobody expects any accountability.

    4. Doing it with donors creates a huge problem. It removes the accountability that comes with a public process and creates a closed loop of money that is protected from audits or other types of sunshine. I guarantee we will not be able to adequately trace what money came in, what it was spent on, and where it eventually ended up. Just a massive grift and we taxpayers will be left with the bill.

    5. The White House Historical Association was apparently able to scan the East Wing and remove artifacts and valuables, so one can hope that we'll be able to rebuild it after the tear down of this monstrosity happens.

    6. For a good part of the 1800's, it was called The Executive Mansion, but Teddy thought that was too much and changed the name to The White House because he thought it was just a house where the President was a short-term tenant. The name stuck for the right reasons. It is not and was never intended to be a monarch's palace. It stands as the opposite of that and the "inconvenience" of hosting large events makes the point. The ballroom is a room that belongs in a palace--both in size and ostentatious ornamentation. It is fundamentally unAmerican.

    7. They continue to lie:
    8. The crappy talking points (See #7) about earlier renovations being spewed by Trumpies--as if that is the same thing as demolishing--are tells that they know they are getting killed on this and don't know how to get out of it. There is no getting out of it. Everyone realizes how abnormal, selfish, and callous this is.

    9. Of course, Dems are mostly MIA. They should have been holding press conferences on the White House sidewalks weeks ago. They continue to buy into the fiction that politics is following public opinion when it is all about shaping public opinion. Just laziness with no tactical plans and absolutely no strategic thinking. They left the East Wing to fend for itself like they left federal employees to fend for themselves and many Americans to fend for themselves. Just abject dereliction of duty. At a minimum, the immediate starting point for any Democratic politician, be they presidential candidate or dog catcher, should be tear it all down on day one and rebuild it in accordance with our history and values.

the good news is that we can just use all the money Biden's student loan forgiveness program would have cost until the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional:

no, it's just that we saved a ****-ton of money from another president's unilateral action that nobody seemed to complain about, and so I just thought we could apply the credit to THIS president's unilateral action that everyone seems to complain about. That's not changing the subject at all, it's about unilateral actions that people either complain about or don't complain about.

let's see . . . one billion dollars for a ballroom, versus 1.4 trillion dollars for shifting a loan burden to the U.S. taxpayer. If it were up to me, I'd go for the ballroom every time. And really, who doesn't love a grand ballroom?

Lying fraud is all you are. Youre quoting a republican paid study while other independent studies show the cost less than 450 billion ( https://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu/issues/2024/4/11/biden-student-loan-debt-relief ) . Also the president did have this authority under the heros act to modify any student loans he wants
