I don't think anyone is expecting pro athletes to be saints. In fact its not some big secret how many are big time gamblers and womanizers. But fixing games, tipping off other gamblers, and helping the mafia run rigged gambling operations is something else entirely.
This whole scandal just further reinforces my belief the league is absolutely corrupted to the core. No way in hell Tim Donaghy was the only ref involved in illegal betting. No way in hell specific teams seem to magically get the #1 overall pick. Cavs get #1 overall picks after Lebron left. Spurs, historically European team lands Wemby #1. Mavs getting #1 after gifting Lakers Luka with a 1.5% chance. These teams getting the #1 overall picks are closer to Acts of God rather than an actual lottery. Clippers and Kawhi getting under the table deals, God only knows how many other teams are doing this. Certainly not us, otherwise Tari would've signed the offer. Now, we learn that not only players but coaches and assistant coaches are involved in illegal sports betting. Windhorst even confirmed the league knew Terry Rozier was involved but made him fake an injury so he was out the entire season then allowed him back to play even though FBI didn't clear him yet. Silver even let a trade go through from Charlotte to Miami which involves a pick knowing Rozier was involved in illegal betting. If I'm Miami, I want that pick back. Adam Silver is just someone paid to cover up everything.
“The NBA investigated Rozier in 2023 after suspicious betting on his prop bets in a game between the Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans -- one of the games included in the indictment -- and said it "did not find a violation of NBA rules." When asked about that investigation Thursday, league officials said the NBA does not have the same investigative powers as law enforcement, but wouldn't comment on what the investigation included.
Remember when mavs drafted cooper flagg and idiots said "theres no way its rigged. Otherwise owners like balmer would surely speak up"
Bro trust me, trust me bro. Tim Donaghy was the only person in the entire association with shady deals. Trust me bro. Please trust me bro. - NBA Commissioner
The whole league is a rigged system for "entertainment" purposes. Thats absolute bs. It's rigged cause they bet on what's gonna happen internally and control the game for major profits. There is no other reason the league would be so deeply supportive of the gambling tied to it. Silver will go down in this if they dig hard enough.
Billionaire Martha Stewart did crime to dodge 46k in losses. Which reminds me - I wonder what will be said of the hundreds of millions, if not billions, in profits from trading on tariff yo-yoing announcements 10 years from now. White-collar crime is so in right now, and I’m sure the FBI and SEC are all over it.
I mean, at this point, should we even be surprised? Every other commercial I see WHILE WATCHING an actual NBA game is Draft Kings or something of the like. You’ve got talk of Vegas getting a franchise in the near future, former players and analysts shilling for gambling apps…..it’s like telling your kids not to do drugs and then setting them up on a date with a meth dealer.
Most people won't care about this. People have way too many things going on and bigger issues to worry about right now, they watch the NBA for fun and they do the prop betting for fun, people nowadays are so blackpilled for things that this just won't even register. A lot of people think sports are fixed and watch anyway. My guess, the end result will be Billups and Rozier will never work for an NBA team again in any fashion. I also doubt any big name players are involved in this, people like Lebron are not intentionally losing games or going under, those players are way too competitive for that. It might be another end of bench guy doing this and maybe there are more people tied to whatever non-sports betting thing was going on with the mafia but we'll see but that is an entirely different thing. All the ads for draftkings, fanduel, etc are definitely not stopping. I just do not think people care that much about white collar crime, it's a story people will talk about, but unless it's on some deep level where like 30% or more of the league is involved in it, most people won't care.
