Notice nobody's talking about the latest round of "(possibly innocent) people blown up in boats"?

How many of you have been in the East Wing? It was stale and too small for the large scale events that the White House hosts. Trump is far better suited than any President in history to build an amazing ballroom. This is his bread and butter -- with his hotels and country clubs. It's going to look amazing and you guys will look small for making a big fuss about it. You have to pick your battles... and getting upset at Trump's privately funded upgrades to the WH ballroom just makes you look silly!

    GOOD DAY

To be honest, I don't care about any President doing any renovation as long as the economy is in a good place....

But to do it while people are struggling shows no compassion what so ever. But hey we talking about Trump...

Exactly, I personally don't care if he demos the whole thing and starts from scratch but to do it during a government shutdown while potentially cutting off millions on food stamps is vile. Economy is dogshit, federal workers are being furloughed or fired, as you say though this is Trump and we kinda knew things like this would happen.

I don't mind doing an addition. A ballroom might be a good idea, idk. Concerns that its size will overwhelm the original building are noted. But that's not what bothers me. What bothers me is this ambush demolition. He said not long ago that they wouldn't touch the East Wing and then, 'oh, as it turns out it we realized it'll be better over there.' That's some BS. You don't move like that on a major construction project without a lot of architectural/engineering design work. They planned to knock down the East Wing the whole time and then lied to everyone to avoid a bunch of shrill complaining and pushback.

As for the arch, I think it is good and fitting to do some kind of public monument to commemorate the 250 year anniversary. I don't have an opinion on the architectural particulars of this project. Hopefully (who am I kidding?), he can do it in a transparent way.

Don't be absurd. The White House belongs to the people of the United States. It is one of the most iconic buildings in the world and represents America on the international stage. Americans have their identity wrapped up in that building. Of course people are going to care what happens with it.

The Next President should renovate the whole thing and remove all indicators of him ever being a part of it from the building

This White House, in defense of what they are currently doing, pointed to the Obama administration adding a basketball court. What actually happened was that they converted a tennis court into a combined tennis and basketball court. That definitely didn’t cost $378M. It probably didn’t even cost $100K.

So if one is using critical thinking instead of being easily swayed by partisan propaganda, one has to ask: where the hell is this $378M coming from?

A tweet of a video from CNN.

Of course, anyone who suspends their basic critical thinking, whatever the source, is easily swayed by partisan propaganda.

    my god you're dumb.

The "$376 million White House renovation" during the Obama years wasn’t Obama’s pet project. It was a multi-year General Services Administration maintenance program that began before he took office and continued under multiple presidents. It included security, wiring, HVAC, and structural repairs to a 200-year-old building. It was routine upkeep, not vanity construction.
