Love Ime, but a half-season rental of Mike Malone as OC might do wonders for the Rockets. Malone has the cred to get Ime's respect and attention. Don't know if he has the offensive chops to make a huge difference, but he's used to getting by without a traditional point guard. Caveat: He did it while the world's best player ran his offense. On the other hand, Sengun, while not yet at Jokic's level, plays a similar style. Grab him now, he'll likely be gone with the season's first coach firing.
Also we were a KD turnover, Okojie 4 pt foul, and an Alpi no look TO from winning the game. Let’s give him time , but he does need to run better offensive plays
Rockets hired the wrong Coach Ime Udoka for Reed Sheppard. Jeff Van Gundy, Tom Thibodeu, Ime Udoka Absolutely the same people in Coaching, Defense Only, Terrible Substitution. Playing Steven Adams and Buddy Shield destroyed Steven Adams in Switches with his 3 point shooting. No excuses to defend Ime Udoka, he is terrible in Coaching. Should've gone after Mike Dantoni. Mike Dantoni has boosted Steve Nash, James Harden Career to MVP Level. Jeremy Lin to Near All Star with the Knicks.
Mark D of OKC really is intelligent in using Coaching Challenges Correctly, Substitution Patterns, Great Roster. His offense is Creative unlike Ime Udoka stagnant offense in stretches, Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard confused in what they should run. Very unwatchable for me. Would rather Box Score Watch, than watch this disaster of a Offense.
The contract extension of Ime Udoka and Fred VanVleet is idiocy and looks even worse now. National Media glazing on Ime Udoka and Fred VanVleet is disturbing.
I’m not worried at all I think ime does a great job at running the team. This was the first game with KD, they’re going to take a few games to find out what works. Ime defense is what keeps you in every game. We identified the missing piece which is Durant. this team will look a lot better with a real PG but I wouldn’t be worried at all right now lol after all we were the 2nd seed in the west last year!
Ime is a top coach with flaws for sure. And as a Small forward his understanding of the guard positions is more limited than I reckoned. Top guards would give him problems in the Clutch.
This is false and a lazy attempt to shade Ime after a tough loss. Pritchard enters his 6th year in the league tonight. He didn’t break out until the latter part of his 4th year. Ime only coached him for 1 season when Pritchard was in his 2nd year. Pritchard had better overall stats and had slightly more playing time under Ime compared to the next season when Mazzulla took over. We lost a tough game on the road in double overtime after a major overhaul of the roster compared to last year and everyone is overreacting (surprise surprise). Ime’s coaching is more than fine. It’s a long ass season. We good.
Not only a PG DFS needs to prove, he is healthy and a upgrade over Tari Eason Josh Okogie, JaeSean Tate need to traded for Sharpshooters. Limit Steven Adams 12-15 mins, why play him over 30 minutes, he is 32 years old and can't move laterally on Defense.
I’m happy with the progress of the team since Ime arrived. It’s not easy to get NBA players to play tough disciplined defense game after game. But, I am concerned with the offense. We have a lot of good players, but it is a strange mix. It could be that some of the problems with the offense is because of the skill set of our players. Last season Ime said we really only had one player that could get their own shot(Green). The team is different this season with Durant, but we still lack ball handlers that can create for themselves and others. The lack of ball movement is frustrating and we tend to put up a lot of contested shots. So, yes I’m concerned about the offense.
1) Defense and effort are the most consistent aspects of basketball 2) We don't have great playmaker(s) on the team to run a great offense as of game 1.
I don't need to be in the locker room to watch what is played or planned on the court, it is rudimentary offense, very few sets, straight up PnR at the top, not a lot of inbounds plays, not a lot of plays on the court to get certain players the ball. If you pay attention you can see it, some guys are attention to detail, JVG for instance - Ime is a good coach and has made a big impact, but he is no Rick Adelman, or Phil Jackson, or Tex Winter, or...Rudy T. DD
What? I am very happy with last night overall - I think we are gonna be great, but this is a thread about Ime's coaching, I think he is a GOOD coach, just not sure he is a GREAT one.....maybe he could start getting there by, I dunno doubling SGA? DD
Uh huh...you are the one who essentially mocks Ime's NBA career as the reason why he is so "stubborn". This thread is about Ime's coaching and the overall strategy got us to a super close, competitive game with the best team in the league.
I don't LOVE Ime as a coach - but I am very happy with the team. I would have loved to see Ime double team SGA - I would have loved a better in bounds play there late, I would have loved for fewer mistakes (Some are just chemistry- I know)....... But I don't hate Ime, I think he is growing as a coach - not a guy who runs an offense I like - and I don't see him making major adjustments to help out weaker defenders by having someone in the paint for instance.... Maybe that will come - we shall see. You guys are free to love him all you want - I just think he has to get better for the Rox to win a ring.... DD

Jesus Christ what a stupid premature thread. Ime took this miserable team from a flaming pile of dogshit to the #2 seed in two seasons. Maybe the offense looked rough at times because Kevin Durant is literally playing his first real game with the team and they lost their floor leader and primary ball handler a few weeks ago. Give them time to jell. If it still isn’t working a couple months in, make a trade for a point guard. Chill out.
