I'm not trading Sheppard yet - that's a nonstarter. Eason + Capela's contracts equal just over 12m, and you can add someone like Tate to get close to 15m. There's a lot of interesting options in that range - NAW, Deni, Kispert, Reaves, Coby White, etc. Eason + DFS is 18m. Guys in that range: Sexton, Monk, Zubac, Huerter, Keldon Johnson. Anyone above spark y'all's interest?
I also would not want to trade Reed. I was just discussing possible was of making the salary work. As for Tari+DFS, I would think we need to keep one of them and trade the other. Tari+Capela looks very doable.
Over 100 million could have been 105 (with like 10 mill being incentives) for 5 years with only 1 or 2 guaranteed years The DFS, KPJ, Landale etc, contracts
We also do not know how much of the offer was guaranteed money. It may have been very incentive laden.
6th man candidates, like Onyeka, make about what Eason was offered. He wants more? A little disappointed. I know, know your worth but this is some Dennis the Menace ish.
I don't believe the Rockets would leak this. There are so many more downsides than upsides (I'm not even sure there are any upsides).
DFS will not get traded since he is on a good contract. Only first two years of contract are guaranteed. Any trades would involve Reed, Tari, Capela or Tate. I think Okogie, Holiday and Jeff Green are safe.
If they really did offer Tari over $100m then it makes Tari look selfish, IMHO ...especially after Sengun and Durant both took team-friendly deals.
He will probably get traded after this. But if he doesn’t get traded he will have to help us win the championship in order to get paid. Only trash teams will pay him whatever he wants.
Windhorst just wouldn't put that out there for laughs, giggles and a new meme. Specific numbers. It's not speculation on his part like some trades.
Tari played like his head was all f'd up after not getting the extension. Dude really sht the bed last night. He better get his emotions in check quick or his legacy in Houston is about to be flushed down the toilet.
I don't assume this report is true, but it's not outside of the realm of possibility. $100M is a splashy number but Windhorst specified that it was not all guaranteed. It could be a KPJ type deal where only the first year was guaranteed and the following years were essentially team options to protect the team from risk. I could understand Tari rejecting that kind of offer as there would not be any long-term security for him. There could have been other conditions as well.
Tari might have fumbled a bag like Dennis Schroeder. If this guy gets one more major injury, he might be looking at another career.
Incentives can only be I believe a max of 15% of the contract value that season. If the reported contract number is $100mil(and I’m kind of skeptical this is legit) - then 85 mill of it had to be non incentive based. If true though - I do think what other sayings is right - that there could be some team options added on later years to mitigate injury risks. Those can be good contracts for older players like Fred trying to max out a payday because they typically net the player more money - but less control of who they play for or contract length. For younger players though - those can be tough because they can change the math on how many contracts a player can earn in a playing career. Ideally you are 30 or so getting your last “big” contract and then you just take what you can get after that unless you are a real star.
