There is a world of difference between them by the numbers though. Per 36 last season: Tari 17.4/9.2/2.1/2.5/1.3 Camara 12.5/6.4/2.5/1.6/0.7 Tari's a superior player on both ends of the ball by some distance. Tari's steal is genuinely top 5 in the league per 36 and that's not a shabby block number either. Points and rebounds Camara doesn't come close either.
Especially if we're still in the market for Giannis next summer. We have the assets to acquire him (Jabari, FVV, Reed, Suns and our draft picks). Tari could be our starter next year if he continues to grow his game. 26-27 Starting lineup Sengun Giannis Tari KD Amen
Keon Ellis, a guard version of Eason. He also didn’t get an extension and will be an RFA after the season.
The problem is I believe Ellis will actually be an unrestricted free agent since he was undrafted and started on a two-way.
You are correct about this, my mistake. However, I still think he would be the target. The Rockets need a guard like him, and I doubt they want Malik Monk’s contract.
Certainly possible he was asking for more than Jabari, about as likely as medicals being the chief reason for the disagreement. I really doubt that we'll hear much from either side; both are heavily incentivized to stay quiet, since again, the single best outcome for both sides is for Tari to stay healthy and re-sign. The DFS contract is an example of why I think they'd feel emboldened to really put the screws to Tari this time around; the contract is just so flexible after this year, you've got rolling 1-year non-guarantees that can be easily cut in case of injury, lack of skill, or general old. Tari is substantially better than DFS, but if you sign him to $20M a year, there's a reasonable chance that he's going to be very difficult to move if you need to trade him, since some teams will fail him on a physical, some teams can't afford a $20M 5th starter, and some coaches just aren't going to be willing to put up with his style of play. Not sure what source you're looking at for 2026-2027 cap space, but I'm pretty sure that at minimum Chicago, Washington, Utah, Charlotte and Brooklyn will have significant space next summer, the Lakers could potentially have a bunch pending LeBron's decision as well. Some of these teams will actually have to spend a ton of money just to reach the floor next year, similar to Houston when they brought in Fred/Brooks/Uncle Jeff/Landale, all at much higher AAVs than most were projecting.
Thank god we didn’t sign him, this is absolutely mindblowing. He just lost the ability to play basketball.
Eason wouldn't be human if he wasn't a little rattled by the contract situation. It may take a few games, but I think he'll get it out of his system.
