odds are tari would have accepted stones offer if it came from Brad Stevens or at least tari would have taken less than his number to play in Boston
for all his steals and blocks how many piloints has tari given up with poor gambles especially in half court game against contenders
future draft capital and controlling the luxury tax years is the key to elongating and widening the window of being a contender
we simply can't pay everybody and keep our window of contention going even the warriors have danced out of the repeat luxury tax to maintain contending long term and you are going to watch the Celtics try to move heaven and earth to get out of the luxury tax this season by trying to move off one or both of jaylen and white to pile up future picks get lucky in 26 lottery and rebuild on the fly while moving from one window to another with Tatum on the shelf
getting Jabari locked in at a great number for 5 seasons really gave stone the leverage to low ball tari you can believe for certainty that stones offer to tari was less than what jabari accepted he was not going to pay tari as much as jabari
In terms of pick assets we gave up the 12 pick for kd We have already signed dfs and okogie They are what tari is without the upside tari possibly still has and tari should be worth a late lottery pick to someone that trade can be done by specified pick protections
I am in the Yes camp. Pritchard has earned minutes in the playoffs under the Celtics and he is on a great contract. I'd do it even with Reed remaining on the Rockets as at this point FVV will be coming back in his final year of his contract in 2026 and Holiday and JD are good regular season depth but aren't on Pritchard's level. The reason why we have DFS, Okogie, and Clint is to withstand a trade, like Tari.
Actually just made a thread myself about possible trades. Might as well trade Tari for a valuable player now even if it’s a one year rental
That would be chess master levels of GM mastery stone would be on pace to be one of the greatest GMs ever if he could pull that off
The laugh would come from FVV as he invokes his no trade clause because he doesn't want to lose his bird rights ....
Absolutely, if he is near league average 3PT shooting he is worth $30m+. That's standard for a 3&D with his calibre defense. Listen, I've had this argument about Mikal Bridges about OG about Lou Dort even who is half their height. If he doesn't improve his 3 it will be $20m+. If he does, it will be $30m+. So you're saying in Pritchard's best season at age 27 he was 0.1 better than Tari at age 24 and you want me to believe that this means Pritchard is worth Tari in a straight up swap? Obviously not. Also, look at all advanced metrics, not just literally the only one that has Pritchard better. Pritchard is not well rounded AT ALL and you can ask Celtics fans about that. He's a shooter with mediocre PG skills on half the court, and he's a negative in the other half of the game. Last season Joe Mazzulla had to defend that he's "no longer" a negative defender. He works hard on defense like Reed Sheppard which looks good in clips, but teams attack him when he's on the court. Everyone and their mother would offer Tari more on the open market. Please at least acknowledge that so we can discuss in good faith. You know and I know that's true. Tari is getting offered more money in the market any time. When ex-champions discuss the Rockets, Tari Eason is always cited as being heavily underrated and one of the best defenders in the future. If we made a straight up swap, everyone would consider the Celtics to have won the trade. It's just so far guys. A straight up swap is a bad choice. Better to go to RFA and see what the market values Tari at.
I never said Pritchard isn't the better offensive player, so I'm not sure where you're getting that from. Pritchard is the definition of a microwave scorer, I'm not dissing him and these players tend to matter in championship runs. However, Tari is seen as a potential long term starter of course. Just listen to Udoka's own statements dude. Listen to players from other teams. Listen to analysts. On the point about impact, of course Tari has more impact. I don't know what you mean by "if he plays more minutes, scores more points, and does so more efficiently than Tari". That's literally false. It's an incorrect way to calculate impact. Impact is defense and offense. Basically ask yourself who's the better two way player. There are several metrics for this which have been shared. Tari dominates except for at the absolute peak of Pritchard's prime at age 27 he became a 6MOY. Whoop. Sorry you were offended by my pointing out your analysis is shallow, but I meant it professionally and you demonstrated it twice by telling us your criteria for judging the guys. You are weirdly over-emphasizing offense. The game is 24 minutes offense and 24 minutes defense. You don't seem to get that. Nice try trying to weasel out of the deal haha. I will ask a busy Celtics board if you tell me what your reaction will be to them saying they would trade Pritchard for Tari tomorrow. Please let me know. How did the Jalen trade work out for me? Well my team is still a title contender and Jalen Green is in a better situation so it's win-win for me. Don't know about you.
You're still pushing this agenda after last night? All my issues with Tari were on display last night. Inefficient offense (including the non-3 ball offense), boneheaded decisions, stupid TOs, needless defensive gambles, etc. Say what you will - we probably win last night if we had Pritchard instead of Tari.
Be honest, do you feel that's a strong argument? We lost by 1 point to the defending champs on Tari's worst night ever. You come to this conclusion by using Tari's 1 worst game vs Pritchard's 6-year average. Do we win if Pritchard is having his worst game ever? Can you show me a clearly worse game from Tari in his entire career? Jesus christ man people here want Tari for $20m. That's already almost 3 times Pritchard's salary. No one signed Pritchard to an offer sheet even though they knew Celtics were in apron-hell. Here, let's make it simple. Tari Eason will make THREE TIMES more money than Pritchard made as an RFA. Do you want to bet it won't happen? $100 in the tipjar. I'm making this SO easy for you. To prove someone is better, I can just say: look they got DOUBLE on the open market EVEN THOUGH they have a higher injury risk. But I'm pushing it so far for you. THREE TIMES more salary from an NBA GM is absolutely decisive. Let's make the bet right now if you think I'm pushing an agenda instead of the widespread opinion among NBA fans, coaches, analysts, players and GM's. Is that good enough to prove who's a better overall player?
