I personally don't pay too much attention to contracts, even though I know managing salaries can have a huge impact on a team's future.

My biggest concern is how this situation will affect Eason's play on the court. His effectiveness as (probably) the sixth man will be key to the Rockets contending this year. Will he be distracted and worry about avoiding injuries or scoring enough? Or will the Rockets get the best version of Eason on a contract year? Time will tell, I guess.

I guess there really is still a huge injury concern. I had hoped the doctors had cleared him and that this wasn’t gonna be a lingering thing. But if the rockets are that scared the medical has to be risky. If it’s a medical concern the rockets made the right move letting him go to RFA. Hopefully he shows out this year and proves he’s fully healthy. Then again if that happens there’s a good chance we lose him for nothing to a cap space team. Guess we’ll see.

Tari definitely sees himself as a better player than Bari, so his expectations are likely around $24 million or more, meaning the offer he received probably wasn’t even close to that number. The reason we’re willing to pay $24 million for Jabari isn’t necessarily because he’s the better player right now, but because of his size, shooting ability, and the fact that he’s two years younger than Tari with no injury history. Players like Bari are much harder to find in the league than players like Tari. Personally, I also prefer Bari’s team oriented approach. He makes smarter decisions and has fewer tendencies to make boneheaded plays.

IMO, Tari’s fair market value would be in the $15–18 million range. I doubt any team would be willing to pay him over $20 million given his health concerns, so he might have pulled a smaller scale Schroder situation here.

We’ve maintained our flexibility, and we’re in a good spot.

If they were not scared, there would not have been no-b2b restrictions last season. The injury risk has to be a really big concern.

They are obviously givers, cause they were not receivers today.

meh the b2b rest last season seemed reasonable given how major the surgery was and the healing process. But I’m no doctor. To your point it’s obviously still a concern or they wouldn’t have been so far apart in negotiations.

Hate this, but no matter what, I hope they don't lose him for nothing. If you can't sign him, TRADE HIM.

Right. It’s always easier to talk about things in hindsight, and I don’t think mama Eason is helping Tari’s case with her social media activity. I haven’t seen Tari as a “giver” yet because we’ve never had the chance to watch him play a full season.

Tari did the best thing for himself. He sees FVV and Jabari get 20M+, but he only gets something like 15M, partially guaranteed. Hope he balls out and gets his.

Another good move from Stone. He needs to show he is better than DFS this season.

Tari betting on himself. Good for him. I hope he doesn't overdo it.

If I were his mom, I'd tell him: Just play the game. If you are good, you are good. And they'll pay you.

The Rockets FO wanting to observe him one more year is a reasonable strategy. I hope they don't plan to trade him.

Tari is a very confident player, borders overconfident. I have no doubt he think he's better than Jabari, therefore wants a bigger contract than him.

If Tari wants to get paid next off-season then the last thing you want to do is dog it. He is going to have to prove he can stay healthy the whole season and that he can play at 110% at all times. He can't come in and be a different player and expect to get a payday. He bet on himself, now he has to go and prove it.

I mean - Dyson Daniels just won the NBA's MIP and was on the all defensive team and earned himself a $25mil/yr payday. No offense to Tari but he has missed the equivalent of an entire season(spread out across two seasons) and hasn't been as good as Daniels. $15mil seems reasonable. I like Tari betting on himself but if he gets injured this year this could backfire on him and it would break my heart to see Tari lose money because I really like the kid.

If I were his agent I would have advised him to take the money and maybe build some extra money in with incentives if we finishes top 3 in an award category or gets on one of the nba all defense teams or something like that. As it is he turned down 15mil and 25mil is probably not feasible for him unless he really balls out into an award category type of major way this year which seems unlikely given how many wings he is splitting time with in Houston. Maybe he has a really good season and someone pays him $21mil/yr over 4 netting him $84 mil...but if he took $15mil/year over 4 to net himself $60mil and had lets say another 2.5mil in incentives every year that could bring him up to $70 mil if he truly balls out in a state with no income tax. The problem with the $84mil contract in this scenario is it's likely happening in a state with income tax judging by the teams with cap space next year. More money is more money, but I feel like there is a lot of risk baked into this scenario that I personally wouldn't advise a young player with some serious injuries early in their career to take on.

Prayers to Tari - hoping he has a strong season!

I think that the extension Braun got from the Nuggets of $125m for 5 yrs, pretty much paved the way for Tari declining a 15-20m per year offer. I mean, objectively, Tari is much better, or at least not worse player from Braun.
I hope we’ll be able to match a reasonable offer to him in the sumner..
