In my opinion he’s got limited skills and NO judgement. Worst basketball iq this side of Jalen Green.
Given his injury history, dumb fouls, lack of consistent offense, blowing layups like an amateur and attitude at media day then hell yes that’s entitled.
I love what he brings, but I think he is close to being everything that he is ever going to be. He's a top tier role player. He's not going to become a shooter or a distributor. He's going to hustle his @ss off, run and jump and do the dirty work. The kind of guy you love to have on your team. Thinking of guys like Rodney McCray, Otto Porter, Trevor Ariza. Paying him like he is going to develop into a bunch more than he currently is, like a scoring option or a main focus guy simply because he is very young seems like a mistake that would be very easy to make, because he is young, and the natural assumption is there must be untapped depths there. I bet someone eventually crosses their fingers and offers him too much.
You mean you are whispering to us what’s common knowledge ? I don’t think anymore mistook him for being exactly smart and a great basketball player. He’s 90% work ethic.
Yeah, I don't want to be harsh, and I don't know what he was offered. But it wouldn't surprise me if Tari's judgment in contract talks is no better than his judgment on the court.
I don’t think this is bad situation between two like people make out to be. Tari still like his teammates and Rockets clearly like to keep Tari so let him test the market after showing that what he can do and staying healthy but kinda disappointing that Rockets still had trust in him even he wasn’t playing for half of the time and knee issue that he had was severe so not sure how much Rockets offered but he should’ve secured the whatever bag first before testing the market on his 2nd contract
I'm totally with you on the love. He's got such heart, games I'll never forget. I don't want those moments to cloud our GM's judgment in allocating cap space. But I wish there were some way, short of overpaying him, to say thank you.
but we don’t know what was actually being offered though…which I’m dying to find out. I also don’t know anything about the medical…which makes any negotiating number impossible to assess as to whether or not it’s a low ball or an overpay.
Making mistakes does not make someone entitled. No human being nor NBA player is perfect. I wanted the Rockets to extend Tari, too. They still control his RFA rights, so we shall see what happens.
I forgot all about the PHX picks. If we end up losing Tari, we replace him with a high draft pick on a rookie scale deal. One of the under appreciated parts of the GSW run was they had Dray on a 2nd round deal for the beginning of it, giving them the opportunity to bring in free agents.
missed layup after layup, end of game brainfarts, unreliable shooter, questionable health… plus we already have DFS signed. today was a good day
As I decompress from this, trying to be fair to both sides, it does seem possible that Stone didn’t feel any need to cut a deal, now Like, say Tari’s team makes an offer that can be worked with, but requires injury-free proof that he can’t provide yet. Well, even if Stone thinks “yeah, that’s a fair starting point for an injury-free Tari to put on the table,” he still has little reason to budge. What it does do is gives him the starting number for summer negotiations. I can see Stone saying to himself, I’m not going close to that number, now, bc I can take care of him later. And on Tari’s side, he’s just tired of the injury talk, so can’t go into injury-discount territory. This lack of compromise has little downside for Stone, bc of how deep we are. It only burns you when the player can significantly increase his market value in one year. Hard for a role player on this team to do that.
