Tari was my favorite rocket. Today sucks. I don’t see him remaining with the team now. Truly upsetting. I want the dirt on the numbers!!!!!!!! I can live with this outcome if Tari was greedy. But need to know!
Remain calm people. They couldn’t come to an agreement. Not the end of the world. We will know in a year or two if we made a good decision or not. It could go either way.
Tari and Sengun were the only rockets that actually outplayed their draft position in those drafts. It’s upsetting they couldn’t lock him up.
Look, not everyone is going to be happy being a role player, Cam gave us a glimpse of it, these guys have a limited career, and Tari had a big scare, they have to make as much $$$ in a short window as possible. Tari isn't even a starter here, but probably would be on multiple teams, earning him a much bigger amount of money. I suspect now he will be traded, before he hits RFA and some team OVER OFFERS something that would put us way beyond our comfort zone in the tax scheme. Tari at this point is Dillon Brooks a very good solid role player for us, for someone else he might be a starter and key member....nothing wrong with him wanting that. DD
Cap flexibility will be important next season...the Kings overpaid for Keegan Murray who has comparable stats to Tari. We do not want to suck like the Kings
On the bright side, my “Terror Twins” and “Tari/Atari” t-shirts will be collectors items. And that could be helpful to me in this economy.
What it comes down to is that no deal is significantly better than agreeing to the kind of bad deal they were pushing for.
If I was another team, I would offer a contract that would put Rockets into the 2nd apron with decreasing value over time to make things difficult for the Rockets assuming no major health setbacks. Granted, the Durant extension was more generous than I expected, such that the Rockets should be able to pivot to make things work.
Tari's worth significantly more than 20 millionish when he plays, but availability is the most important ability of them all. I never expected a deal to get done because I understand why both sides would have significantly different ideas of worth. If Tari plays 70 games and shoots well he will make 30 million on the open market.
