Nobody is giving Tari Eason bad advice. He has missed 85 games the last two years due to a leg issue that required season-ending surgery two years ago. Therefore, his contract extension offers from the Rockets are lower than what he feels he can produce. He’s betting on himself, like many employees do everyday.

Also, he’s going to be the top option off the Rockets’ bench, playing 25 minutes or so a game. His playing time isn’t in jeopardy unless he becomes a locker room cancer in his contract year.

If no deal I blame the kings overpaying Keegan Murray for this. All kidding aside, he has an injury history so he needs to understand that is a factor the Rockets have to consider, especially with FVV's injury so recent, just bad timing.

yes, the reports are that Stone is offering 15M/year and Tari wants 20M/year. However that 5 mil difference will put us over the 1st apron next year.

All I'm saying is, with how Kawhi got that under the table deal, can we really not just give him an extra sponsor that pays him $5 mil a year where he does some promotional work to not make it look shady? That'll save us from going over the 1st apron and both parties will be happy.

If the Rockets’ offer to Eason was 3 years, 45M, I would be betting on myself, too. He’s worth more than that.

What's the source for the reports on the numbers? Genuinely curious. Thanks.

Well the DFS signing remains the biggest issue here as well.

Is there a way to give him 15m that first year, but make up for it with a higher number in following years, since the cap is going up. And possibly with guys like Capela or others maybe not around by then.

That’s not an issue. Neither is trying to stay under the first apron in future seasons. It’s the second apron, which essentially serves as a hard cap, the Rockets and Stone don’t want to exceed.

The issue is Stone has offered less than Tari’s on-court value because he has missed 85 games the last two seasons. Tari is betting on himself to stay healthy this year and earn something similar to what Toumani Camara received in Portland. Neither party is wrong for their actions, in this case. Nor does this mean Eason is automatically getting traded this season, as the Rockets have his restricted free agent rights next summer.

Would they match a big contract offer for Tari this offseason? I'm not a cap expert but how much does the Amen extension play a factor.

I wonder if signing Capela cost the Rockets Tari.

Not necessarily. We can still move Capela in some way and then offer Tari what he wants at the end of the season, if he earns it. Plenty of moves can be made between now and next off-season which is when we actually need to extend him, he's under contract for the rest of this season regardless.

    Raises are routine.

But you can’t go higher than an 8% raise (not compounded).

if he signs, it will likely be structured like Jabari’s — a rollercoaster deal — down then up. 2nd year will decline by 8%, then remaining years will rise. That’s so the dip occurs when Amen’s deal starts. That way, as you say, the rising cap will compensate.

True. Would love to extend him before the season though. I believe we can trade using his extension as salary out if we extend. Could be used as a trade chip if needed this offseason.

I think Amen plays a huge factor. I said it in another thread, but assuming Amen gets the max, we'll be at almost 170m in 2027 between Durant, Amen, Sengun, Reed, and Bari with a projected cap of 180m and a 234m second apron. The Durant pay cut makes a massive difference, but we still need to be wary of breaking the bank.

You would think KD taking a pay cut would be to extend Tari. Or at least I would think so.

The Rockets know more about Tari and his gimpy leg than any of us. I won’t criticize the Rockets if he isn’t signed, because I just don’t have all the information they do. I am a big fan of Tari.

It's not a popular topic, but are we sure we want to rookie-max Amen, when seemingly everyone else have been taking discounts. Amen and Reed both still have question marks. Shooting, free-throws..etc.

Ear-mark some money is fine, but hopefully not over-doing it. The pot has to be divided somehow.
