Why not with that monster lineup of 4 seven footers? The offense is going through Sengun and he’s a fantastic passer and facilitator. We had a couple guards that dominated the ball last year and they got stopped cold in the playoffs. I’m so damn excited about this season. The rest of the league is scared of our starting lineup and that’s the fact!
Really depends on personnel played and how loose Rockets play. I think defense will make fewer mistakes leading to longer possessions on defense. Also, not sure if Rockets are as efficient as they have been shooting. I do think offense will be Top 10 unless Okogie plays a ton.
Just did a quick eyeball of the preseason game box scores. Breakdown by half - 1st Hawks 64 / 58 Jazz 67 / 73 Pelicans 60 / 70 2nd Hawks 60 / 73 Those numbers skew heavily towards the second half. If you take only the first half points and double them to normalize, they would be averaging 125.5 PPG. If you do the same for 2nd half stats it's 137 PPG. The back end of preseason games, when all the scrubs get in and everybody's trying to show off to earn a job, the points get a little out of control. It's not a HUGE difference, but I think 125, becomes (guestimate) 115-120 PPG when the other team's starters really care about defending. That's not a huge bump from 114.3 PPG last year. That would put them in the top half of the league. Only 4 teams averaged over 120 last year - Cleveland, Memphis, Denver and OKC. They're not going to score like 10PPG more than the second place finisher.
I do think it's much more sustainable with Reed than FVV. He might not be as steady a hand but he's a much better fit with the Amen/Tari style of causing turnovers and pushing the transition points. If he can start to perfect his lob then that could become a serious weapon for us.
Reed doesn't dribble air out of the ball and he has great feel for the game. I think he is an improvement over FVV playmaking wise.
Yeah agreed. I've felt since last season that Fred slows us to a crawl which goes against the strengths of most of our guys, I've like how Reed's looked in preseason.
The lead guard governs the pace of the game. FVV has a slower pace of play than the youth movement. This pace will eventually effect the number of attempts by our opponents because the game is played back and forth making the defensive numbers skew the wrong way just from volume of possession. The goal is winning and the pace is set to this team’s talent. We have the depth to keep the pace if coach will use it.
Losing FVV is going to result in a few more turnovers with others handling that responsibility. He was also a master at slowing down tempo which cuts down possessions which helped out our defensive numbers.
