Reed should start against most teams. He shot 38% from 3 last night and played good defense. He was aggressive getting to the hoop. All he needs to be able to do is shoot well from 3, drive enough to keep defenses honest, and play decent defense. He needs to demonstrate consistency against better competition and needs the opportunity to do just that. Ime and the fans need to be patient with Reed and Amen in their new roles. So far, the pre-season has given me reason to be optimistic that all the hand wringing over not having a PG was just fan panic and not based in good basketball knowledge. The Rockets are going to be contenders for many years to come.

While his defense was overall good, he still had a few bad possessions but I think he'll clean that up with time.

As to the shooting, also overall good, but he really should have made one or two more than he did.

I mention this because it shows that his reasonable ceiling is even higher than last night's performance.

he's going to be sharing the floor with Amen, Eason, Durant, Jabari... All fantastic switchable defenders. I think we will survive with a few blow-bys per game.

One of the blow-bys last night was because a teammate didn't switch with Reed and he was forced to try and make up for it.

His blow bys aren’t due to ability, it’s him ball watching and trying to get the steals.
He just has to play within defensive structure and pick and choose when to gamble

If Reed can maintain 29 ppg on good efficiency and average 7 stocks per game, we're definitely in great shape.

He looks much better so far in the preseason. I'm really curious to see who Udoka starts in the opener. It's down to Adams and Sheppard. Lots of good options. My hope for Reed this season is 12 ppg on solid percentages and league-average defense. That would be a huge jump.

Double big is DOUBLE stupid, as a starting unit, it is a situational lineup - if we start it it will be like running in mud on offense.....

I don't see why DFS would be the starter in any lineup.

    PG- Amen
    SG - Durant
    SF - Jabari
    PF - Sengun
    C - Adams

    PG - Amen
    SG - Reed
    SF - Durant
    PF - Jabari
    C - Sengun.

Not only that - but I wonder if he even gets minutes outside of garbage time on a healthy roster as Tari should be the first player off the bench at both the 3 and 4 spots and that's the position DFS plays - Not Guard.
Okogie is also going to get some run at the 2 and 3 spots based off his defense alone - if he's shooting 38% from deep, he's hard to keep off the floor.

I don't see minutes for DFS unless Tari is moved.

No, I am looking for a young player who has all the tools to turn into an AllStar franchise player overtime and replace Fred.

Reed can give us a great boost off the bench but can start on certain back to back games when KD or Amen is out

DFS should be better than Akogie. DFS is a career 38% from 3, Akogie is a career 30%

DFS is a much better shooter than Okogie. But DFS is more a forward than a guard. My concern is that Okogie is too limited to be a regular contributor. I wish he and Holiday can be rolled into one player, taking the strengths of both guys. :D

True, but Okogie can play defense, and he is capable of hitting the corner 3. He can play 10-12 minutes a game. That's not too bad.

I do think Okogie can be a rotation player on this team. He's kind of the only rotation-caliber "true" shooting guard on this roster, and Ime will appreciate his defense. I would rather see him get minutes off the bench than Holiday or Tate as things stand right now. If he stinks, that may change.

They play different positions - Okogie plays at the 2 or 3 spots while DFS is a 4.

The team is very thin at one of those spots and stacked at the others.

Who's your third guard behind Amen & Reed? Is it Holiday, Okogie or JD Davison?

I've been saying this since the offseason. After FVV was out, this problem is even more pronounced.

Those three guys are about the 9th-11th players on the roster. But at least one of them has to be in the regular rotation simply because we don't have other options. Meanwhile, the front court have multiple guys who deserve big minutes but the field is too crowded.

I thought Reed had major ups? Even on fast break or wide open dunks he doesn’t really slam it or get a lot of extra clearance. And have yet to see him attempt to dunk on anyone.

It's because his standing reach is less than 2 ft higher than his height. He jumps super high to try and catch up with the normal reach for somebody his height. (Or, he gamed the score like he admitted and he actually doesn't have insane hops, just decent hops. I've been told this is impossible by the experts, but you tell me if Reed looks like he has 1 inch between his vert and Vince Carters?)
