If this is a crime, Trump should be in prison.

Former Trump national security adviser John Bolton indicted

John Bolton, President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser-turned-adversary, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Maryland.

He now faces 18 charges: eight counts of transmission of national defense information and 10 counts of retention of national defense information.

Prosecutors wrote in the indictment that during the time he was national security adviser to Trump, Bolton shared “more than a thousand pages of information about his day-to-day activities” with two unauthorized individuals. Both of those people were related to Bolton and didn’t have the authority to access classified information, prosecutors said.

Print-outs of “diary” entries were also found in Bolton’s home, according to the indictment.

Bolton is expected to surrender himself, as soon as Friday, to authorities at federal court in Greenbelt. His case was assigned to Judge Theodore D. Chuang, who was appointed to the bench by President Barack Obama in 2014.

“The FBI’s investigation revealed that John Bolton allegedly transmitted top secret information using personal online accounts and retained said documents in his house in direct violation of federal law,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement. “The case was based on meticulous work from dedicated career professionals at the FBI who followed the facts without fear or favor. Weaponization of justice will not be tolerated, and this FBI will stop at nothing to bring to justice anyone who threatens our national security.”

Even Andrew Weissman is admitting on MSNBC that Bolton's situation is much worse than the (fake) charges against Trump. Remember Trump had declassifying power as President... Bolton most certainly did not... and Biden didn't as VP. Bolton allegedly TRANSMITTED classified info -- that's a huge step beyond what they accused Trump of... and very serious.

The Democrats gave their "best" and most dishonest effort to imprison Trump for life and they couldn't do it -- even with the massive advantages of liberal judges and jury pools... Remember this the next time Democrats talk about "saving Democracy". Saving it by imprisoning your massively popular opponent and removing him from the ballot? LOL

Bolton's situation is far different. And I'd hope you can understand why transmitting classified information to foreign governments is bad for our country and illegal.

So when do we expect the Signal chat participant to face the law?

Hes going after the easy targets. No one cares about Comey or Bolton. He won't go after a major Dem because he's too afraid of the backlash.

Prosecutors allege that the former national security adviser transmitted national defense information using his personal email or a messaging application to send sensitive documents classified as Top Secret. The documents allegedly revealed intelligence about future attacks, foreign adversaries and foreign-policy relations.

The Justice Department also allege that Bolton illegally retained documents containing national defense information within his home. These documents included intelligence on an adversary’s leaders as well as information revealing sources and collections used to obtain statements on a foreign adversary.

This literally describes the Signal fiasco and Trump having files in his bathroom at his house. They're setting up precedent to be prosecuted themselves.

What this tells me is that they think they'll be in power forever, don't fear the repercussions and don't think the inevitable 'pendulum swing' to the left will happen because they will stop it from happening.

Except that if the Democrats ever do regain power, they will be too p***y to try to prosecute any Trump crimes. They got burned last time, so they will just "focus on the future" and let the crooks get away with it. That's probably the smart play too if you can stomach it.

I think we're in the endgame of the old-guard Republican last grasp for power. It's well documented that the majority of the country has been moving left for decades. Voter suppression, Gerrymandering and even hacking voting machines only goes so far when it's painfully obvious that the country doesn't want a super-conservative governing body.

Project 25 and the corruption of the USSC are just two obvious signs.

if a Democrat isn’t willing to make these devils pay, then don’t even bother running…just go away

any Dem candidate talking about bipartisanship, reaching across the aisle, coming together, and the usual soft Dem BS should get slapped across the face and ridiculed 24/7

Honestly - They need to grow some balls
The first thing they should do is impeach Clarence Thomas - He has taken too many gifts and not recused himself from obvious biased cases
Look into other Judges on the court as well

IMO it's not about making 'them' 'pay' it's about hardening our constitution and laws so this **** never happens again. There will always be 'them'. Do I think there should be penalties for anyone who broke the law? Yes. Will it matter if someone wants to do it again and can? No. The system needs to be fixed.

What a joke the DOJ has become what a waste of time, and the Administration knows it, this is them trying to **** UP the lives of anyone that is calling them out for their crimes.

It is the old big business suing the little guy because they can't afford the lawsuit stuff.

they gotta do both…if they’re not willing to make them pay, I can’t trust that they’ll do the work required to harden the constitution and laws to prevent this from happening again because they’re not actually serious and aren’t grasping the severity of the moment and what’s been occurring

making these devils pay is the bare minimum

we didn’t make the confederacy pay and tried to play nice, and have been dealing with their descendants trying to ruin this country ever since

you make all these fckers pay and set an example

any Dem unwilling to do that is a joke and a disgrace and shouldn’t bother running for anything of importance

From everything I've read of the indictment - and I'm making zero comparisons to other similar crimes by other people - this is a slam-dunk case to prosecute.

Yeah, breaking laws should be punished, which is also a deterrent. And that counts with bullshit corrupt USSC rulings. Any ruling with corrupt justices involved should be reviewed.

Look at J6 rioters. They were all pardoned but I guarantee there is a segment that would never ever do that **** again because they did time for it. And there is a segment who also sees their lesson. Prison as a concept isn't as bad as the reality. 'Oh noes I'm gonna get butt****ed' is actually pretty low on the list of what sucks about prison.

They'll all get pardons before the end of his term if that day ever comes.

WTH was Bolton thinking? Sounds like a solid case at first glance, but one wonders when "top secret national security" was applied and whether it was applied properly.

Case centers on top secret national security information
Bolton suggested the criminal case was an outgrowth of an unsuccessful Justice Department effort after he left government to block the publication of his 2020 book “The Room Where It Happened,” which portrayed Trump as grossly misinformed about foreign policy. Bolton’s lawyers have said he moved forward with the book after a White House National Security Council official, with whom Bolton had worked for months, said the manuscript no longer had classified information.

Authorities say Bolton took meticulous notes about his meetings and briefings as national security adviser and then used a personal email account and messaging platform to share information classified as high as top secret with his family members. After sending one document, Bolton wrote in a message to his relatives, “None of which we talk about!!!” In response, one of his relatives wrote, “Shhhhh,” prosecutors said.

The two family members were not identified in court papers, but a person familiar with the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss nonpublic details, identified them as Bolton’s wife and daughter.

A Bolton representative told the FBI in July 2021 that his email account had been hacked by operatives believed to be linked to the Iranian government but did not reveal he had shared classified information through the account or that the hackers now had possession of government secrets, according to the indictment.

Bolton’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, said in a statement that the “underlying facts in this case were investigated and resolved years ago.”

He said the charges stem from portions of Bolton’s personal diaries over his 45-year career in government and included unclassified information that was shared only with his immediate family and was known to the FBI as far back as 2021.

“Like many public officials throughout history,” Lowell said, “Bolton kept diaries — that is not a crime.” He said Bolton “did not unlawfully share or store any information.”

I have never been a fan of Bolton, but on the face of it the charges look "real" and the career prosecutor signed off on it, so it "looks" solid but hell, we need to see what he did with them, will be curious to see how this plays out

The funny thing is the current and former Prez were found with Classified Docs, so either we have a HUGE problem of SECRETS just walking out the door of the WH or the stuff really isn't that Classified

I wouldn't doubt most of the living Presidents have something they probably shouldn't have
