You have to be an EVIL person to deny AMERICANS hit by these disasters.................you are simply EVIL to allow your neighbor to go through this without help. I hope everyone of these fema jerks gets a good case of the shingles with a bonus dose of chlamydia and renal failure

Evil implies giving a **** and being sadistic. No ****s are given here besides power.

Major typhoon damage in Alaska. At least 20 missing, some stranded, some injured by flying debris, and houses swept into the Bering Strait. Coast Guard showed up, but that's about it on the fed side. Most evacs were being conducted by private pilots until the Alaska National Guard got their aircraft to the area.

Looks like NWS cuts also played a role.

It's one of the most significant airlifts in US history and it is still going on. Here's a photo of about 300 folks being carried to safer places.

Rebuilding in the same place will be tough. There's no Home Depot to just go get some stuff.

Alaska's Air National Guard is doing most of the evac work. Alaska DOT is opening up and maintaining airport runways. Coast Guard has been doing things, including rescuing some folks who had no more airfield/runway and could only be reached by helicopter. A DHS press release essentially bragged that the response was being led by the state.

One of the contributing factors is the thawing of permafrost, which increases erosion and ground instability. This may be a disaster that accelerates the inevitable relocations because of thaw and subsidence. The estimate before the storm had about 150 communities having to eventually relocate or be abandoned. Think of the worst impassable swamp you can imagine and then put it on steroids and you'll have a close approximation of thawed permafrost--it is just nasty stuff and impossible for any vehicle, including boats, to do much. Just one big mud pit.

We are looking at two thousand or more from 50+ villages displaced across an area the size of Oregon and none of it reachable by road. Rebuilding will not happen before winter and it may be 18-24 months before folks can even start thinking about moving back--and some must face the reality that their place has changed irrevocably and cannot be rebuilt as it was.

Federal disaster declaration still has not been signed by the president, but earlier this year FEMA cancelled a $20 million grant for coastal erosion control to Kipnuk. Of course, that was a Biden administration grant through the EPA stemming from the Infrastructure Bill. When cancelling the grant, the current EPA Administrator called it and similar projects, “wasteful DEI and Environmental Justice grants.”

    sounds like the Palisades.

when was the grant cancelled, and had it not been cancelled, what work would have been completed between then and now?
