I mean if they can miraculously be healthy and have had enough time together to gel by playoff time (HUGE if), they should be very good. But the best? Doubt.
I watched their game against Charlotte and there's some Amen in his game, with his versatility, feel for the game, and vision on both ends, and his jump shooting looks almost as shaky as rookie Amen's did too. He is less athletic than Amen is though. The other comparison I would draw is Franz Wagner. Way too early to draw any firm conclusions about him, but I do think it's very possible he doesn't quite live up to the hype (but is still a very good player).
Flagg being this good at THIS age is insane though. He's a full 4 years younger than Amen is (minus a few weeks).
Yes, true. But Amen is entering his third season, I was comparing Flagg to the rookie version of Amen. But it's fair to say that where he is right now as a very young player is promising. He could end up being truly special. Just saying there are still plenty of AUs floating around right now where he's more of an Andrew Wiggins than a LeBron James.
I think the chances of him being a bust like wiggins is basically zero, his basketball IQ and understanding is way too high, wiggins has almost none of that. I think it's possible he peaks as like the 8th best player in the league vs a true MVP but him being a bust is basically impossible (obviously excluding injury but that applies to everyone).
I don't consider Wiggins a bust, I just consider him disappointing versus expectations. I think that's possible for Flagg too. I can see him being a guy who struggles to make more than 1-2 all-star games.
He's a 1st overall pick who never sniffed being a top 40 player in the league, he's absolutely a bust. I think Flagg's floor is way higher than you think, but who the hell knows, he's a child. I teach kids his age and the idea that someone like that is about to make their NBA debut is wild haha.
Wiggins did make an All-Star appearance! I think that's about the median for a #1 overall pick. People waaay overestimate how good the "typical" #1 pick is. There have been plenty that were out of the league before they turned 30. From that perspective, Wiggins being a starter all throughout his 20s and making an ASG is "fine". Not good, but not terrible. When I think of a "bust" I think of Anthony Bennett, not Andrew Wiggins. But, we're kind of splitting hairs here. Whatever you want to call Wiggins, I think we're both in agreement that the jury is out on what Flagg will become. Not saying I think he will definitely be disappointing, but he didn't blow me away with what I saw from him either. I more thought "hmm, pretty good, kid."
