I grew up in the country, I can feed myself.

I believe in a strong military and good infrastructure/ people who keep disease out of our country (They failed and the fact that our tax dollars subsidized Covid bothers me for more reasons that I want to really think about.

Obviously with your thoughts about Reagan's statement means we will never agree with what the role of the federal govt should be. So talking about this is going to be just a waste of time.

 

I’m not interested in debating Reagan’s slogan because, at the end of the day, it’s just that, a slogan. It means different things to different people. For example, the phrase implies that gov itself is the problem, yet you’re saying gov is the solution when it comes to a strong military, good infrastructure, and protecting public health. That’s exactly why I don’t rely on political slogans in serious discussions... they’re meant for campaigns, not for real conversations about what kind of gov we actually want.

I can feed myself fine too, but if the economy were to enter a deep recession and there were absolutely no safety net, we’d quickly spiral into a depression, and a lot of people would be harmed. That’s why I think some level of safety net is necessary, not as a handout, but as protection against collapse and chaos.

 

Immigration, drugs, but most importantly criminals getting let out early. I appreciate you asking

The logic of why it benefited the United States or China is always the part I struggle with. The global economy suffered greatly and it deeply damaged democratic norms globally as well.

You saw crack downs and since then fascistic autocratic leaders have gain more and more power because of the economic uncertainty, isolationism (micro and macro), civil unrest, and inflationary issues that are a direct result of Covid.

Just in general the world is a worse place for everyone now because of Covid changing our lives. So again… please explain why? How did they do it, and why??
