AI is great for these hyperspecific queries. The answer is they never have since they unpegged the peso from the USD in 2002.

As Trumps policies become more indefensible, the worse and more idiotic @El_Conquistador 's takes get. Just blabbering, no semblance of truth and no facts behind anything he says. He has no credibility

For the record, when they illegally destroyed USAID citing "waste" (even though USAID made most of its purchases from US suppliers) -

    - its annual budget was $5 billion less than the Argentina bailout/Bessent Kickback

This is a Milei bailout, not an Argentina bailout. 20 billion is a lot. 40 billion is pretty crazy. I’m not sure how the executive branch can spend that much money to bail out a single foreign leader. Doesn’t the power of the purse belong to Congress?

“If he loses, we are not going to be generous with Argentina,” Trump told reporters. “I think he’s going to win, and if he wins, we’re staying with him. If he doesn’t, we’re gone.”

Honestly, if i was Argentinian, the big orange Yanqui trying to dictate how i vote in my own damn country's election would actually prejudice me against voting for Melei.

Donnie with the subtle, deft touch of a ton of falling bricks.

This is exactly what has happened in Brazil - Lula popularity sags then Trump mumbles about his shithead buddy Bolsonaro & tariffs & Little Marco starts making threats - and boom, people rally around Lula again

I was thinking the same thing and it ticks me off. USAID was an incredible ambassador for the United States. Tossed away to feed the administration’s greed.

It's projected 14 million people will die due to the cuts to USAID. ( https://ph.ucla.edu/news-events/new...on-preventable-deaths-2030-if-usaid-defunding ) USAID entire budget was 35 billion or 5 billion less than were giving Argentina.

Killed 14 million people for literally no reason.

The pro life party starving children around the world to hurt...the libs? I think it's just plain old fashioned greed, they never cared in the first place.

Sure, they definitely never cared, but by stopping it they get to hurt the people who do care (aka the libs). As is commonly said regarding most repub positions, the cruelty is the point. I don't see it as old fashioned greed since it's not like they can directly pocket the money, or need to direct it somewhere else.

On the other hand, for the Argentina stuff, evidently Scott Bessent (treasury secretary) or his allies are heavily invested in Argentina, so it makes sense to use government money(not theirs) to bail them out to save their own private investment money.

Below article talks mentions major hedge funds look to benefit. I believe NY times also has a similar article, but I don't have a subscription.
