Overreacting a bit here, but I’m starting to get tired of Holiday. I know it’s just preseason, and Clint might still be rusty or working back into shape, but if he doesn’t step up soon, I wouldn’t mind seeing both of them moved. And of course, Tate’s name always seems to pop up in trade talks anyway.
Depends on how bad we are on TO start of the season, I don’t think Clint would be worried to be traded because if he fail to produce his mins will be reduced to garbage time role. Problem is there’s no less than $10 million contract answer for us to fix if we’re aiming for the championship. I don’t think any brand new veteran PG with that price can miraculously operate our squad starting December, we just got live or die by Amen, Sengun or Reed figuring out.
If they could just find a Matt Maloney/Moochie Norris/Rafer Alston type point guard I would be happy.
You might want to sit down, before reading my next sentence … Tate and Holiday can’t be traded without their consent this season.
He’s a completely different type of player so don’t pay attention to the comparison but I wonder if GM’s out there see Tari as a Harden/OKC type of opportunity to bet on. Like go big on a bet to trade high value picks to get him, give him a big extension, a starting staring role, and see if his game will explode. If like Harden with OKC, the Rockets feel like Tari is going to command too high a price and that he’ll be a very expensive 6th man, I do wonder if Stone won’t entertain a sweetheart deal for him. I personally would hate to see him get traded though. I think he’s freaking awesome… but it’s a business and there is such as thing as the salary cap.
Tate can be a useful player off the bench. Holiday is trash. I’m very skeptical of JD, but he should get 20 mins in the final pre-season game to see how he looks against starters or at least against real rotation players. He is by far the best ball handler out of Reed, Hoiday, himself, and Okogie. His 3 pt shot looks bad to me, so I expect that hot hand to cool off. Sheppard needs to be a backup guard this year, but right now we don’t have a worthy starting guard other than Amen, so Reed has to get the nod. It would be really odd to me if Ime proves to be flexible enough to play the match-up game with his starters. We will know for sure against OKC, because there is absolutely no player in OKC’s rotation that won’t absolutely destroy Reed.
There are ways for the owner to pay them extra cash compensations to consent. It is not impossible, just saying. I think Tate is trying to overstay, Aaron seems like a reasonable guy you can reason with. It is moot either way because both are not really hot targets of other teams.
Wonder if there's a way we can grab Kris Dunn from the Clippers. They have Harden and Paul at PG. They have Beal and two young guards on the roster too. They have Kawhi and Batum who handle some playmaking too. Batum and Derrick Jones Jr guard the bigger wings. Maybe we can convince them to do Okogie and two second rounders for Dunn. Okogie fits better with them and Dunn fits better with us. Okogie helps them with guarding wings, getting rebounds, getting out in transition. Very similar players, just at different positions. That's if we can trade Okogie, I'm not sure. Seems whatever we try to do is "can't do that because of xyz". Why does our salary need to be this high? Do we really need to be spending $21m+ at backup C? Is there a city in America that FVV loves so much he would approve of us sending him there to do his rehab? because being able to trade FVV would be the biggest life saver. I think if we can trade him to a team that can absorb like $7m in salary, all these trade restrictions go away? Something like FVV for Terance Mann would be sweet even if not a splash. At least we can get 15-20 rotation minutes out of that guy for the next 2.5 years and reduce our salary. I believe we get under the luxury tax with that move and a lot of these trade restrictions go away. FVV gets to live in Brooklyn, maybe he prefers to do his rehab there. Maybe he likes Toronto cause he lived there. Maybe closer to home in Chicago. Maybe he wants to party a little in Miami while taking advantage of their highly regarded medical staff. Those teams all need mentors.
Holiday, Tate and Green wont be up for trade as they are minimum players. What would be the point of trading them and who would even want them? Rox are at the apron which would cap them out they need to move bigger contracts. The players most likely to get traded are Clint Capela and Reed Sheppard. Clint makes 7M and Reed makes 10M.
FvV has a no trade clause IIRC, doubtful he leaves unless its to a contender. 21M in backup center when we do double big makes sense to me.
Tate and Holiday for a role player that fits a specific need if necessary. Tate, Holiday, and possibly Reed and Tari for a BIG name but I don't see that happening.
