I think he’s needed in a new role regardless of his injury. Ideally this year even before the injury, Amen and/or Reed really needed to step up as a perimeter creator for this team to take that next step. However I did want Fred to stay with the team in a role similar to Jason Kidd in his last couple years with the Mavs or maybe something similar to what CP3 was for the Spurs last year. His veteran presence, being vocal/directing players on the floor, and providing floor spacing is still an important asset for this team. Next year hopefully he can provide that if he’s able to come back from this injury and be a new version of himself to finish out his career.
All I can tell you is that from any number of perspectives, having Fred is better than not having him.
KD, Amen, Jabari, Reed their all smart efficient shooters who know their limitations and will do what ever it takes to win.. we don't need any front running chucker who thinks he's steph curry from behind the arc who only does things that make him look good he will just take away possessions and shots from the guys who truly deserve it
Fred is a winning player Jalen is not just look at last seasons BPM and net ratings for the starters. Jalen is 4th at best I'd rather give the shots and possessions to KD, Amen, Sengun, and Jabari. We need to build around KD Amen Sengun Jabari. Surround them with 3&D like Reed, DFS, JD We already duped a deparate Suns into taking JG not sure if we can do the same to other teams who are smarter
KD trade or no KD trade...Jalen told ya'll out of his own mouth that he wasn't surprised he got moved because they had already been trying to move him since Ime's first year here. The Rockets did not see Jalen as an integral part of this team. He was getting moved at some point regardless.
The question is why now....I mean some had us move him to the bench but no use entirely....I am not there yet. I guess I need to watch a whole season and KD is definitely a safety blanket, I want to see the same Offense run when KD sits out or being load managed.
there's still a handful Nalens trying to prove they were right Alpi IS the franchise player with Amen and Jabari proving that they're part of the core FVV injury or not Jalen is simply not good at winning basketball
People keep talking about his mentorship - well you can sign Patty Mills for $2m and he knows Udoka’s system just as deeply as our assistants. You don’t pay $25m for a mentor whose production took a nosedive at age 32 and who has been injury prone for over a decade. Fred’s leadership is great but on its own not worth much. Leadership and mentorship are never that expensive. That’s an “add-on” service, not a core service. I guess we all coping on this issue.
Can you point me to the part where Jalen or anyone said he’s getting moved regardless? Pretty sure you made that part up. Was clear according to even our own insiders he could get moved for the right player at the right time but I never heard anyone even implying they were trading him regardless. That’s pure conjecture unless you have some quotes to offer?
he's the front running chucker non winning player holding back the team that needs to be traded/replaced/upgraded first and foremost before any other player go write a new chapter if you want "if Stone only knew FVV is going to get injured he would have kept JG"
I can't believe there are some people actually lamenting trading Jalen because FVV went down. As @A_3PO said earlier in this thread, trading Jalen was addition by subtraction. Anyone still upset about trading Jalen should pull the trigger and get on a Suns message board. I am sure Jalen will need a lot of defending by the end of the season when Sun's fan see what they got stuck with.
Lamenting is probably a strong word but if Jalen was not a 2nd Overall pick he might have been more open to act more like a role player thus more useful..... Feeling entitled is probably the biggest weakness aside from his inefficiency.
Does the Rockets need FVV? They definitely does not. I’m sure they will get through the season without him. But, I do remember him playing very well in the playoffs. I would rather have him than not have him.
A fair assessment. If he was a new player probably, yet he has already established chemistry with the others so leaning towards needing him.
I can agree with that assessment. Silas certainly did not help with keeping him grounded. TBH, he ended up with the worst coach he could possibly have to start his career.
Yes, Rockets does needs Fred. Never, ever underestimate the value of a steady ball handler in the NBA. I will take Pablo Prigioni over Russell Westbrook or Chris Paul over De'Aaron Fox any day. Good PGs elevate other players, limit team turnovers, and direct traffic when young players are out of position.
Obviously some of yall forgot life before Fred... when everybody was just running around all crazy and disjointed taking bad shots... Fred calmed things down and brought some discipline to the team... actually helped mold these guys into a team... Now our guys have matured a bit... theyre good enough where athletic talent and energy can win out over crappy teams... but when we come against real contenders, we still need some vet leadership... hopefully KD can supply that to an extent... but all this Fred hate is just out of line! I appreciate what Fred has brought to the team and i wish he hadnt gotten injured... Those that want to rag on Fred and cast aspersions... show some freaking respect! The man is still a Rocket and he has been nothing but a consummate professional! Ya'll prob want that narcissistic stripper chaser Hard-on back... which shows how whacked your priorities are! Talent without discipline and hard work is just fool's gold!
