Tucker just exudes the " I don't give a flip" attitude. Glad he is no longer on the Astros. I love players with "fire."
Were saying it last year. He's the worst of the Astros in the playoffs and not worth overspending for. I'd take Yordan over him anyday, even if we have to sit Yordan for half a season for him to be fresh for the playoffs. Hell, I'd take a current Springer over Tucker in the playoffs right now.
Step 1 is getting to the postseason. We've tended to take that for granted, but teams will pay for that part.
He's perfect for a team like the Cubs who seem to just like getting to the playoffs every now and then to appease their fans. But for a team wanting to win a ring, not so much for an overpay. I would be very surprised if he gets any offer above 5 years (especially with how the market has been shifting). Soto and Ohtani are anomalies of course, but everyone else trying to get to that echelon suffer for it. 5/165 sounds like something a team would offer. Hell, that sounds like an offer the Astros would've done easily last year. The only thing really going for him is his road stats of .292/15 HRs and 47 RBIs are impressive in only 70 games. So maybe he goes to the Dodgers for 5 years/ 100 mil and defers $100 mil starting 2050
He's a 28 year old that has had 5ish WAR each of the last 5 years - the last two despite missing decent amounts of time. He'll get well north of $200MM and likely 7+ years. He won't get Soto or Ohtani money, but he'll likely be in the next big tier. Astros fans always underestimate how much people will pay for players. Correa was scheduled for $300+ MM despite having a long injury history and never being a superstar hitter.
I can see your point, but Correa was in the middle of the spending frenzy that is beginning to dry up, and he was shown as an active leader in the clubhouse compared to Tucker who doesn't seem to fit that bill. Added to that his last two years have been subpar with injuries and hasn't proven he can take charge when it matters most. But you may be right about getting north of $200 mil/ I'm just not sold that over 5 years is what teams will offer him this year, but maybe 6 could get him there.
Anyone thinks that the astros had a prayer against the mariners or the tigers are insane. Those teams are built different. Maybe in another time, but we aren't close to them now. Firing staff isn't going to change that. I don't know what the astros do from here.
We probably make the playoffs this year with him, tho. But yeah, never liked his lazy attitude. He's all talent and no personality.
Stay healthy. We need to rebuild the rotation, but only the Dodgers could survive what our team went through.
