I’m pretty disgusted with Ime’s infatuation with Fred He should’ve been packaged for KD to make room for the kids. Our guard depth is now sh*t. I understand trading Green for KD but we could’ve been much deeper with Amen, Green, Reed, and Cam as our guard rotation
It was much better that they forced a team to allow us to dump Jalen on them, without the leverage KD provided, we'd have been stuck with him forever due to his awful contract and the fact that he is terrible at basketball. With Fred going down, it's the best of both worlds.
FVV is equal parts floor raiser and ceiling lowerer. He should never see the floor again as a starter on this team.
I agree with this statement .... that's a very good way to describe FVV. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes, but he is also very limited in what he can do, particularly rim pressure - it was non-existent. Rim pressure is the easiest way to make defenses reactionary which leaves openings for easy buckets.
He is needed more as a veteran leader more so then anything he does on the court. He will be a backup when he comes back the following season. Reed will be the starting PG for at least the next decade.
and let that front running chucker continue to take possessions and shots away from Alpi, Amen, Jabari, Reed and now KD?
The Raptors (and Grizzlies w Dillon) fans told us how much of a chucker he was at times. He called his own name way too much. At least with Jalen we were trying to see what we had. But he grinds the offense to a screeching halt. SenHub has been so refreshing to see with Jabari/KD/Reed/Amen.
I’m really trying to trade FVV/Capela/Tate and draft capital after Dec 15 or at the deadline. Obviously will include other people if correct player. FVV won’t love it but I can see him being ok with it. We paid him for nothing. If by Feb we think he could help in 2nd round of playoffs (off bench) then maybe hold him and trade next year. FVV/Capela/Tate is like 35 million so we should be sble to get someone decent.
At first I thought it was fine we got rid of Jalen (even though i still like Jalen despite his trash hoops) But i think this year, with fred out, and Sengun running the show, we will kick ourselves knowing we could have had another threat in Jalen for Sengun to throw the ball to.
We don't need FVV until we do. What we need is FVV's salary in a player that can perform. Remember Ryan Anderson's contract on the CP3 team? If we had an elite role player on that salary perhaps we wouldn't have lost game 7 instead it was wasted on a player we couldn't play in the playoffs. FVV will be the same thing.. you don't win championships when you spend a big chunk of your salary cap on a player that can't play. If this team truly looks like contenders by December, then Stone needs to have serious talks to trading FVV for a piece that will help us in the playoffs instead of it just being dead money.
I think Jalen would’ve naturally taken a step back to KD and eventually Amen & sengun. I understand trading green for KD but would still rather have Green over Reed starting the season I would’ve preferred to get Fred out of here for KD and save Green, Cam, and Reed for another trade. Basically I just think we could be in a much better position but Stone cucked to Ime’s love affair with Fred and roster demands
I think FVV's main contribution to last year's team was the steadiness he brought to the team. He set the tone and executed the plays without turning the ball over. And on occasion, he would "take over" and hit a shot when the team struggled, but that wasn't really his strength, and it was one of the Rockets' weaknesses - when they were flailing around, there was no one to take that one shot to settle things down. KD excels at that latter point - if you need a bucket, just let him go 1-on-1, and that's a huge addition to the Rockets. As a 50/40/90 player and one of the best in the world, he can get high-percentage buckets almost anytime. FVV will not be missed on that front. Can the Rockets overcome the loss of FVV's steadiness? That's still to be seen. I doubt Reed is a contributing factor this year to that - too young and too inexperienced still. But if Sengun can keep his TO low, I think he more than replaces the steadiness of Freddy. His past two preseason games and extended play in the EuroTournament show he's ready and has taken another step. What concerns me more now is FVV's defensive value. He provided solid, tough team defense, even while undersized. Reed was pretty bad at defense last year. He's gotten stronger and has shown improvement in his first 2 preseason games this year - not a breakthrough, but definite progress. Still, he's not going to replace FVV's defensive value, and that's significant for a team that was one of the best, if not the best, defensive teams last year. Obviously it would have been great if FVV were still playing, but with KD now on the roster, it's not as devastating as it would have been last year. I think Sengun is ready to take that next step, so I think the Rockets will be alright and remain a top-tier team - assuming they can maintain their defensive identity without FVV's presence at the point. Funny enough, I think the coaching challeng now is back to Defense, more than Offense.
I remember being frustrated with him last season but I can't forget he was one of the few that came through in the playoffs. I think we'll miss him but still be good enough that most won't notice.
Trading Jalen was addition by subtraction. Rockets were lucky the Suns accepted him as part of the package for KD.
This trade package is trash that is based on extreme homerism. It's like something Lakers fans propose because they believe the rest of the NBA is a farm system for their team. Also, Fred cannot be traded until AFTER he picks up the option on his contract. Even then, nobody will want an over-the-hill player after missing an entire season due to injury.
