Everyone should care about weaponizing the DOJ, unless you are perfectly fine with living in a banana republic.

James ran for public office on the campaign promise to go after Trump on anything she could find.

Which apparently was going after him, a real estate investor, for inflating the value of his properties on his loan application, which probably happens everyday and the banks all said they were fine with the practice.

There is absolutely not material difference in the nature of what Trump is doing from what James did.

    She was entirely politically motivated.

How do we know the DoJ case won’t stand on its own merits? It hasn’t run its course.

Should we be worried about the weaponization of the NY AG office as well?

    Yea, you’ve got nothing.

A federal grand jury was presented evidence and chose to indict her.

DJT has his personal attorney cosplaying as a prosecutor. It's an embarrassment from top to bottom and if you're gonna go after your perceived enemies at least get someone competent to run the show. Tish won hers and this case is already lost along with the Comey one.

    Cool story.

And Alvin Bragg and Letitia James ran for office on express political promises to go after Trump.

Now Trump is in the position to go after James.

Tit for tat and James started it.

She absolutely ran her campaign on holding Trump accountable and was very vocal about investigating his business practices. That didn’t happen in a vacuum. There were already significant public concerns, and major outlets (WSJ, NYT, etcs) had reported on Trump inflating the value of his properties to secure loans and tax benefits.

That’s exactly what the civil case focused on, and the court found those claims to be factual.

No, this isn’t something that happens every day. The court didn’t find minor exaggerations, it found that he and his team intentionally misrepresented values over more than 10 years, and by massive amounts. For example, the court found that Trump claimed his Trump Tower penthouse was 30k square feet, nearly three times its actual size of about 11k square feet. This wasn’t a matter of subjective judgment... it was a deliberate falsehood about an objective fact: the physical size of the apartment, which inflate the property's value by ~$200M.

i posted about the conclusion of a veteran federal prosecutor, a MAGA supporter, who had spend more than 3 months investigating.

he concuded that there was insufficient evident for prosecution
you seem to think that an indictment is the same as a conviction

And? As if their opinion is the be all end all?

The Southern District of New York also passed on prosecuting Trump before Bragg forced the issue.

Yea, no one could ever create something as farcical as this evil incompetent administration in any book, show, or movie. The dumbasses like you that voted for this shitshow are probably already feeling the pain but too proud and stupid to admit it.

Of course. Weaponization of the justice system, federal or state, shouldn’t be normalized or accepted. When prosecutors use their power to target political opponents instead of seeking justice based on the merit of the case, it undermines the rule of law and damages public trust. That’s exactly what we are witnessing now at the federal level - a demand for prosecution and the firing of prosecutors who refused to bring cases because they lacked merit.

Did we not witness that with James and Bragg in New York?

They ran political campaigns on the promise of going after Trump.

They completely weaponized the judicial system in New York to go after a political opponent.

Now Trump has that same ability but his is federal.

    Reap what you sow.

There’s a very clear and important difference between these two situations.

In Trump’s case, we’re witnessing what looks like genuine weaponization of the justice system: he privately demanded prosecution of his political opponents, accidentally broadcasted that demand publicly, and fired prosecutors who didn’t pursue the case because they believed it lacked legal merit.

    That’s political retaliation, not justice.

In contrast, the New York cases brought by James and Bragg were based on substantial evidence and thorough investigations. You don’t have to agree with every legal theory used, but in both cases, the courts found the evidence credible. In Bragg’s case, a jury convicted Trump on 34 felony counts after reviewing that evidence. That’s the legal system doing its job, even when it’s politically inconvenient for Trump supporters, who have been vocal about weaponization.

But the kicker here is this: if you claimed weaponization was wrong but are now perfectly fine with it because James was harmed, then you’re part of the revenge tour and the weaponization of the justice department. The double standard is impossible to ignore.
