You said "pure 4" and pure 5. Pure means they dont play any other position otherwise whats the diff between pure and non pure? Amen played front court but you said 3 not 4. Fine as a 3 but didnt say his percentage as a 3? Look man if you so confident KD is a pure 4 wanna do a tip jar bet if KD will be a 3 this season? I can bet up to 1k he starts at the 3.
If you only consider 100% as being a pure something than that's fair enough, just not how i view it. I'm not saying what position they WILL play, just what position they actually are (and the position they have always played). Amen played the 3 53% and the 4 29%.
Well you shouldnt say something is pure if it has impurities in it. To answer your question since we have Sengun playmaking and Amen can do secondary playmaking we can just have a wing, either Tari or DFS.
Those add nothing to the starting unit, if you went with Okogie, which is a complete joke, you completely destroy the spacing of the starting unit and effectively play 4 on 5 when you have the ball. With DFS, you add an injury prone journeyman who has been on a different team every year after the Mavs gave up on him who is redundant in the starting lineup. With Tari, you add nothing at all to the starting unit because everything he does is redundant and to a lesser degree than what they already have. Importantly, none of them have guard skills...at all. I get that they'll be playing through Sengun and KD quite a bit, but it would be nice to have at least 1 guard on the court.
Well in terms of resume Reed just averaged 4 pts on below 0.500 TS% so he is worse than the journeyman RN. How much of those guard skills did Reed show with the starters? All he did was bring the ball up and pass it to either Amen or Sengun thats the extent of his role thats why he had just 3 pts for most of the time. You keep changing up first you said just defensive impact and shooting without needing the ball now suddenly Reed has to show his guard skills so he has to start.
I get why casuals will struggle with this, and it's fine. How about just focusing on your guy in Phoenix and come back later when things are so obvious even you can figure them out? I'm not trying to be mean, it's just these conversations get tiresome because you fundamentally know so little about basketball and have no clue what you are seeing when you try to watch. Also, aren't you the idiot who said that Reed Sheppard has poor shot mechanics? Pretty much speaks for itself.
You wrote so much BS but didnt even address my points which were actually your points since you just contradicted yourself. Its impossible to have a conversation with you since you always start attacking people when you start losing the argument. Your MO is so pathetic you even applied it to the Rockets players, tearing them down with irrelevant comments rather than admit they all fit the off ball role better than Reed.
Do you think reed just has no chance and is a complete bust? If you think he actually has a chance to be good, i don't see why you wouldn't start him and give him reps now. We know with 100% certainty that Holiday is not a starting level player and the only other guard is a gleaguer who has shot 28% from 3. I'm not a fan of playing zero guards which is what starting someone like Tari would be. What matters is building a team that can compete for a title, and finding out if reed is gonna be your long term PG or not is far more important than possibly winning 1 or 2 more games this season.
What does being a bust or not have to do with his role? You said you wanted to focus whats best for the Rockets, now its Reed reed reed whats best for Reed. Whats best for Rockets is have Reed be 6th man because the big 3 will handle the ball and the other 2 guys need to do offball role. This is esp true with Jabari awakening his scorer gene and wanting the ball more. We can have DFS or Tari be the othe starter and he can do Reeds role which is mostly defend and spot up for 3. You said you believe in positionless basketball well Sengun does the pg duties thats why we dont need a traditional pg. Sengun gets the ball at the 3 pt line lots of times and starts creating from there. If you remember James Harden also started out as the 6th man, and being the leader of 2nd unit allowed him to develop his playmaking because what the starters needed is a 3nD like thabo sefalosha.
not sure that "starter scores more when playing with bench players so he should also be a bench player" is a rock-solid argument
The Question should be, Is Reed starting material? No! However, should he start on this team? Yes. He's a #3 pick, so he should get every opportunity. Same as Jalen Green did. His best asset is his shooting and thus far he hasn't been consistent. His defense is below avg at best. The Rockets view him as an investment, so to maximize that investment, you have to let him play! Now should he finish games? Hell No! His shot is IFFY at best and he gets picked on defensively. Right now from what I've seen, I think JD is more of a PURE PG, than Reed. Reed is a Tweener, same for Holiday, a Shooting Guard in a PG's Body. I think he's at best CJ McConnell. After a year and half, he still hasn't looked like a Top 5 pick.
I don't care what's best for reed personally, i care about what will maximize the rockets chances to eventually win a title. I do not believe in positionless basketball in the sense that you can play a center with 4 power forwards, short of them being guys like bird/lebron/jokic and even then i'd want guards who can get around screens and stuff.
It hasn’t been a year and a half, he has performed extremely well in his recent starts, including against the reigning champs. You have no idea what his ceiling is. At least give him the same grace periods you did with Jalen.
He shouldn’t get as much rope as Jalen. Funny how guys complained about all the chances Jalen got and b**** about Reed not getting his chance. I think he should start, because he is already better than Holiday, JD, and Okogie. If he fails than demote him. For God’s sake, don’t give him 4 years to get his sh*t together like Jalen. The intention this year was for Sheppard to be a backup PG and hone his skillset. He is being thrown into the fire. In preseason, he has had one bad game and one good game. He doesn’t deserve to start, but he deserves to start compared to the other options. Folks need to lighten up. We are going to be better this year than last and I predict at minimum the WCF, whether Reed is good or not.
No one should, and no other player on the Rockets ever has. Everyone else has had to earn their spot...and Reed Sheppard is doing that. As to the team being better this year, I think it's just about a given. Will they have the win count? Maybe not, but this isn't a team that is going to get embarrassed in the first round by a ****ing 7 seed like that fraud ass team last season.
Why did Jalen deserve that much rope? It’s not even close to the same situation as far as opportunities go. Jalen didn’t earn anything, he never had to. I’m not even saying Reed needs to start, but in no way can anyone say he doesn’t deserve starting or wasn’t worth a top pick. The logical inconsistency with some of y’all is ridiculous.
