The offense is better without Fred VanVleet

My preseason over reaction is the offense if flowing better. Sengun had 8 assists at halftime. The other guys were sharing the ball more. There is a kind or a Ewing effect where they know their point guard is out so they all need to pick up their passing. They push the ball up the floor at a higher rate. They will have more turnovers, but I think as a whole it looks better. I think much of this might also be the addition by subtraction of Jalen Green being gone.

Now, i will say I do think that at times we could still use Fred's steady hand. But yeah the Senhub is vastly superior to Freddie playing grandpa ball walking to and fro across the key. Not only do I think it just makes us a lot less unpredictable, when you combine that with those moments where we just cause turnovers and then blitzkreig them (terror twins at times looks just ridiculous, I bet that's frustrating as hell how dominant they can be at just shutting you down completely) then how do you gameplan for that? You can't defend both of those styles at the same time if you don't know which is coming. Alpi could have an absolutely huge year this season.

Yes, I said that when FVV went down, we are different but overall we are better.

Not because of FVV but because we replaced all the players that left with better overall players.

FVV is a better PG than Reed but our pace and shooting will be better with Reed/Amen.

KD is way better than Green- nuff said.

DFS/Amen/Tari are as good or better than Brooks

Overall, we will give up more points, but our Points differential may be one of the best in the league.

Instead of winning 99-88, expect scores to be 125-107......

I think it is Ime's fault how he uses FVV. Without Fred, Ime needs to spread the offence which makes us less predictible. I wish we had similar team offence when Fred was on the floor too.

The offense is better when playing one of the worst teams in the league(and getting back one of the greatest scorers of all time in the same game).

Truth. I do have to warn Ime and a few posters. That when you play offense like this, faster pace, your defense is going to naturally decline a bit.
Don't want Ime or the posters to get a heart attack, mayne.
With FVV we'd treat every possession like the last one, til the last second if necessary.

Slower Pace typically leads to better defensive numbers, as you turn it over less, possession time allows for less points and you typically are in better position to defend off a missed shot. It's also boring af to watch. Remember those JVG Yao years? oof.....

We will never be D'Antoni level of speed, but this is much more fun to watch than anything since. Let's just hope Ime is ok with the higher opponent scoring totals. If we keep the turnovers down a bit, not quite FVV level, but, down a bit from expectations, we should be overall, a better team.

I don't believe the offense will be better to start the season than it would have been with Fred. IMO, there will be a few early losses because of his absence.

On the other hand, the players should adapt, figure things out over the long 82 and be better by playoff time. Sengun, Amen and Reed will be forced to grow faster than they otherwise would have and there will be bumps along the way.

Sengun is an offensive prodigy and facilitator.
In Eurobasket 2025, he rose to the superstar tier...

That's a good preseason overreaction. Realistically once the real games start and we play against tough defenses, it would be nice to have someone that can settle down the offense. I have faith in our team though and we will definitely have more turnovers this season but I think we will be able to run teams out of the gym as well. I feel pretty good about our half court offense as long as KD stays healthy and Sengun does not miss easy ones like he did last season.

Maybe. Let’s see what it looks like when they are playing for real, especially during the playoffs.

I think Amen and Reed will do fine. They just have to get used to their new roles. Amen has an advantage at the point with his size and vision and Reed ,with all the offensive skills that he has, will get real comfortable playing next to KD. When the time comes we can go get Russ or a 3/D shooting specialist for 2nd unit. I think we should go get a shooting specialist that can play defense. But if we get Russ, he can run the 2nd unit.

Last year I said that either or both of Jalen and Fred needed to be replaced, so I was never of the opinion that the season was cooked when Fred got hurt.

Fred had some good playoff games, but overall he was not good last season. This season's success was always going to be dependent on 1) the health of KD 2) the young guys' improvement

People romanticized Fred's actual on court impact. The Rockets were bad offensively last season with Fred being the "floor general". I like FVV but this was needed for the team to progress past Ime's bromance with him.

Reed is a better PG for this team than FVV. Hes a better shooter with actual gravity and less of a ballhog.

No, offense looks better because an all-time scorer joined the team.
