For all the sample size / clutch playoff performance skill conversations - you can’t just look at a single player to see if playoff clutchness is a real “skill”.

250 plate appearances is enough to say that Tucker has been bad in the postseason. That doesn’t have a lot of predictive power going forward compared to his overall statistics or tell you if there really are players who are clutch and those that aren’t beyond luck.

Interesting article for anyone who cares:
    https://www.espn.com/espn/page2/story?page=betweenthenumbers/ortiz/060405

That analysis would suggest being “clutch” is mostly being good at situational hitting. The effect is also relatively small compared to just being a good hitter.

Personally, I’d take Tucker over Enrique Hernandez going forward despite their playoff stats to this point. It’s also possible Tucker just doesn’t have what it takes, but that’s generally not what analysis of play off performance in general would suggest.

Yeah if you saw how Mariners fans talk about the Astros you would get pleasure in watching them lose. They’ve got a loaded farm system and their stars locked up for the future. You don’t want them winning one.

There’s so many factors at play that it’s hard to pinpoint the reason for some of the success and failures of certain players. As I’ve stated, I believe some thrive under the added pressure (playoffs, game on the line, etc.) but I don’t think that’s the primary reason some of these guys are failing.

Using Judge as an example, yes he had a good postseason this year, but he’s been bad in the past and I don’t think it’s simply “small sample size”. I don’t necessarily think he is a “choker” either. He strikes out a considerable amount in the regular season - thus there are ways to get him out. That K rate goes up to 31% in the postseason, which isn’t surprising given the level of pitching he’s facing. Every team is going to bring in their best matchup out of the pen against him based on the data.

Point being - David Ortiz didn’t strike out much for a power hitter. It’s not surprising he was great in the playoffs. Same goes for Yordan.

Yanks are gone. I am hoping the Mariners are next. In the NL, I don't care except I want LA knocked out of the playoffs.

Blue Jays/Brewers would be an interesting World Series to watch. I wouldn't care if the Brew Crew won either

It looked like Realmuto was pointing to 1st. Unfortunately when he was pointing, Kerkering was looking down at the ball so he didn't see. And guessing even if Realmuto was yelling 1st, loud that he wouldn't hear.

BRUTAL ending. I mean just brutal. He clearly panicked in the moment. I don’t even know what I would do if our season ended like that.

If the Phillies don't fire Thompson, then they just don't care.

And f*ck the umps. Screwed over Sanchez and Kerkering. Should have been a 1-0 win.

aw man, I love the Yankees, from dumb player sound bites, over zealous proclamations to start the season only to get a hole stomped in their ass, to their idiot fans and their “who they want” chants, we couldn’t ask for any better entertainment year in and year out. They’re the gift that keeps on giving….

I wonder if Framber reacts by thinking his fielding woes are more excusable because he can point to others or... will he motivated to learn how to field now...
