Houston Rockets are correct. Tari is not that good….he choked in the playoffs when it mattered most. He was the only player on the team who choked worse than Jalen Green. Couldn’t make a free throw for his life when critical in playoffs. Very disappointing as I thought he’d be clutch with the chips on the line and he wilted time and again in the playoffs.
I think a second round pick would save at least $700,000 on these numbers. https://bleacherreport.com/articles...ns-every-nba-teams-extension-eligible-players He predicts 5 years, $110M. That is $18.6 the first year. That would leave KD with a starting extension salary of $54.7M. That seems doable. Longer contract could coax Tari into settling for less in the first season. Not sure Rockets want to do 5 years without team options though.
Shooting fts is kinda important. But you are right thats beside the point. Jones was defensive first team his contract year thats why he got paid 25M, if you remember Dillon Brooks also got paid similar amount, thats like the going rate for defensive first teams. However another thing is how much capspace teams have and we see other guys this offseason like DFS and NAW only make midlevel. That is prob what the Rox are pushing for considering they are only 300k away from getting locked.
Hope they dont do this. Eason and Reed package for star point guard. Hopefully it doesnt happen and rockets pick up his contract. Reed becomes better overall player. Lets hope. We all like Eason and Reed. Good players.
As a Rockets Fan, I like rooting for a team that grows into a champion organically - like the Astros did. Adding a Durant/Verlander type to fill things out is fine, but too much roster turnover sucks. I struggled to root for the Astros this year because too many of the core players were new. After the trade deadline, you would look out there and see Altuve, Dubon, Diaz, 3 rookies and 3 vets from other orgs... there just wasn't enough good history to get into things. I fear the Rockets could make a similar mistake. They have had a lot of offseason turnover already. Let the season progress before making any more changes. Eason and Reed are young, improving players. What point guard could you trade for that would raise the ceiling of this team? Jrue Holiday? Who else would be affordable?
I think the days of Morey's "moving assets" are gone. Stone seems to be more cautious in making deals and is more patient with young players.
I really like this post and I think I agree. I would actually go so far as to say I'd rather extend Tari than Durant. We'd have to figure out a way to add another number one offensive option but I think we could do so using our elite draft capital. Sometimes ii's not just about winning a championship- it's about pulling for the guys who you've seen grow up. I really like Tari Eason and hope he stays on the Rockets. I think KD is a great player but I really have no affection for him at all.
I don't know if Tari accepts that. KD might have to take a little less and I'm wondering if he's willing to in order to retain Tari. If not, it's just a tough decision between KD and Tari.
I am all for extending Eason around 22 million a year. But I would also say that I am curious to see how he plays and what his trade value would be as we near the deadline. I’m not super concerned with the injury to DFS and there might be some duplicity between him, Tari And Thompson. Although I acknowledge Eason makes us a lot better.
