I, as a libertarian, think it is wonderful that the Democrats suddenly care about state's rights. I wish it wasn't limited to when the President they hate is using the federal government as a cudgel against them. On the plus side, the federal government is currently shut down and has been for almost a week and my life has not gotten the tiniest bit worse for it. It's almost like most of the federal government is totally unnecessary and we can do just fine with only the "essential" functions that they maintain during the shut down (and probably without a lot of those as well).

I do find a little bit of humor in the Democrats now screaming "state rights" and the Republicans outraged that Democratic states and cities are questioning federal authority. I don't find it funny that the executive branch is as powerful as it has been in 175 years... and I don't find all but certain over correction to the left and back lash coming funny.

As for the shutting down the federal government -- it's been like 5 days. A lot of things can go 5 days and their isn't a huge issue.... I can let my bills go into default for 5 days and no one is kicking me out of the house yet.

I do appreciate that you are largely consistent in your positions and suspect you are a good person.

I would kick everyone off all spending programs. I don't have any plans on preventing people from getting their own food (aka starving them). I am opposed to using force or coercion to take from one to give to another.

 

I even tried giving you the benefit of the doubt with a most but of course you cleared that up right away. The disabled, elderly, and children will just fend for themselves I guess...

They can try, and the rich are allowed to defend themselves. I didn't say have no government though, I said don't take from some to give to others. Policing is a perfectly legitimate function of government.

They can rely on themselves or others who choose to help them. I wouldn't outlaw charity or anything. Once again, I am opposed to forcibly taking from Joe to give to Sam. If Joe wants to give to Sam, great. If not, also fine.
