Yep. Arrighetti did not have surgery. I think he will though. Elbow stuff is bad. We’ll see what happens in ST
Cam needs to produce. He shouldn’t keep getting special treatment if he continues to be so terrible at the plate.
I would be 100% sure Sanchez is washed before I move off of him. They tried to change his swing, I would hate for him to be J.D. 2.0 and take his revamped swing with more launch elsewhere.
I want one aspect of this team to be elite. The history of the game has shown that elite pitching usually trumps elite hitting (if you have to choose only one) in terms that run prevention due to elite pitching tends to be more consistent over 162 and can contribute moreso to generating wins (based on that projectability/consistency). They don’t have an elite pitching staff… or one that could possibly find its way to be elite… as currently constructed. We’re now entering year 6 of Javier… and people still waiting for him to pitch a whole season as a starter, let alone turn into a cy young candidate or even an all-star. It’s more likely that he’s the pitcher we’ve seen last year and the year before he got hurt… vs. unlocking something else. The rest of those guys are just guys. Arrighetti not opting for surgery tends to have negative results… namely less effective as a starter, and eventually requires surgery anyways. He’s also still yet to be counted on for a full season and is still ‘figuring it out’. Could they add pieces like a Cole or Morton (guys who overwhelmingly exceeded expectations vs. what was there at the time of acquisition)…. Sure…. But I also don’t believe we have the same coaching staff or innate ability to unlock those versions (and given what both have done since… it wasn’t just the coaching that played a role in their greatness). And while the lineup will also never approach 2019 standards… it’s also pretty set when it comes to the top 4-5 guys, based on contracts, positions played, and longevity. Sure an upgrade at 1B and CF will go a long way but it’s less projectable than the dearth of starting pitching they’re currently at a crisis with.
This is the truth, but they have the money to add a couple of pitchers through FA/Trades and also add a young cheap hitter. The main difference in how we see the state of the pitching staff is I'm real high on Blubaugh and Pecko. I look for the starting pitching staff to look something like this, Brown Traded for Pepiot type pitcher FA Kelly or Gallen type pitcher Javier Blubaugh
