Ah but Alba wasn’t in it with her current today self so. But, I’ve thought about this meme reply long and hard and…
I could get down with something like a "Night with Geddy and Alex who pay tribute to Neil" or something like that................RUSH is my all time go to band so I will be there
I'm lucky that MSG is 1.5 hours away by train from my house. Ft. Worth would be a hike from Gslveston where I'm originally from. Would be a hike but worth it.
Always a tough thing. Were The Who "The Who" after Keith Moon died? Yes and no. But I still enjoyed the concerts.
Saw them on their All the World’s a Stage tour in 76. Neil was a huge part of the band but I think you’ll still enjoy the show
IIRC Geddy and Alex will also be adding a keyboardist for the live show and maybe one more musician. I am guessing that they will also add another guitarist, since Alex was having trouble playing a full set on their last tour.
I mean...Geddy playing bass, keyboards and singing was part of what made Rush so magical and unique. Especially live, since he was able to pull it off without any backing musicians or tracks. I really am conflicted. I'm not against them getting another drummer and touring (even though it's not me). I just think it should be someone who sounds as much like Neil as possible. I hear Anika (an absolutely fantastic drummer, btw) will be adding her own style to the songs. That's fine with any other band besides Rush. Neils playing was very structured and precise. He took a more orchestral approach to his playing and he rarely improvised during their shows aside from his solos. His fills were as much a part of the songs as the lyrics or melody. Rush songs are more like compositions than just rock songs. Of course, all of this comes with the disclaimer that those guys have more than earned the right to do whatever they hell they want with their music. Who am I to have any say at all. I'm just a nerdy Rush superfan. It's like these Star Wars nerds who hate George Lucas. Uh....without Lucas there wouldn't even be a Star Wars. It's his baby, he should be allowed to do whatever the hell he wants with it without having to check with you dorks first. Before he sold it to Disney, of course. Same goes for Rush. That's what I keep reminding myself. Look, I will admit.....maybe this all comes down to me being bitter that they didn't call me first despite the 362 voicemails I left them.
I could be wrong but ... I suspect that the new drummer Anika can play Rush songs "note for note" from the record, if she wanted. Anika might make slight changes here and there. Reading between the lines of what Geddy and Alex have said, they wanted fans to hear Rush drum parts faithfully played. Having said that, how Peart played evolved over the years and he took some liberties with the older songs in the last few tours. Hard core Rush fans went to Rush concerts to see a trio, like you said. That can no longer happen. Geddy and Alex wanted to do Neil Peart tribute concerts after he passed. When they were emotionally ready for it, covid got in the way. Now is the time. This will not be a Rush v2.0 tour or a Geddy + Alex tour, but a Tribute tour. A Tribute tour allows them to open up the format, like adding more musicians, playing fan selected songs, maybe having guest musician up on stage for a song or two for certain shows, ... The only deal breaker for me is that they must show a Peart signature solo on video in the Tribute concert. If the fans really want to hear the "All The World's A Stage" tour solo (assuming no concert video exists), the new drummer can give it a shot (but that seems iffy that they would want that).
I saw Xanadu on the confirmed play list for the upcoming concerts. I cant imagine anyone coming close to what he did in the intro section. Chimes, temple blocks, fills with like 7 time changes. I wonder if she will get an 8 minute solo.
I hadnt thought of that, that would be friggin awesome..................put Neil up on the screen for the solo
Hmm...I only registered for the pre-sale on the first two shows. Now, another two shows? lol. I could go to all four if I wanted. But, I think once is enough even though they aren't repeating the same identical show; they will sub some songs in and out. Let other people enjoy it. But, I'm questioning the strategy on buying tickets now. You can only buy for one show at a time for a particular date right. So, which show to target for the best seats initially? Hmm. I got front row in a pre-sale once by essentially being first one in but that was on a company WAN where I worked. lol. I'm definitely not splurging for VIP or anything this time. Being up close on the floor has it's perks but you do miss the overall view from a distance for sure. Plus, not a lot of opportunity to sit on the floor if people are standing so you tend to stand the whole show. I think I'll shoot for lower prom-ish on a side but it's really whatever tickets you land on and the more you try it's probably the worse seats you get as they get gobbled up. I dunno...I haven't bought tickets in a while like this. I would guess first or last show is best bet (since middle of a work week). I don't know...you almost need a farm of at least four people to target each date for best tickets. And, go with who lands the best ones. Probably not worth the trouble. lol According to the seating chart, there is a General Admission pit at Dickey's Arena in Fort Worth. I've never seen a Rush show with a GA pit before. So, front row isn't really front row because there's a pit in the front? I've never been there so I dunno. Just looking at the chart.
Nah bro here's what you really do. First, register for every presale that exists. Even if you only plan to go to one show, register for all four, just in case the cosmic ticketing algorithm favors the indecisive. Don’t worry — you’ll forget which email corresponds to which presale by the time links arrive. Decide which show you “probably” want to go to — but don’t commit. Open four tabs, one for each date, and then open four more because you’ll lose track of which is which. Label them “Show 1?” through “Show 4 (maybe idk).” Establish a four-person Ticket Procurement Syndicate™. Each person should target a different show, using a separate IP address, browser, and spiritual alignment. Bonus points if one of you logs in via a company WAN from 2009. Exactly 10 minutes before the presale starts, perform the sacred refresh ritual: Refresh once. Then don’t refresh. Then refresh again just in case. Then open a new tab and refresh that instead. Now question every decision you’ve made. Queue physics apply differently depending on the moon phase. If it’s a waxing crescent, being “first in line” guarantees mid-balcony seats. If it’s waning, you’ll somehow end up in the General Admission pit even if you didn’t click GA. About that pit. The “front row” isn’t actually the front — it’s behind the pit, which is technically in front of the front, but also below it spiritually. You can’t sit there, but you also can’t not stand. Accept this. When seats appear, panic. Do not, under any circumstances, calmly assess your options. Click the first two that look decent-ish but also maybe not, then release them because you think you can do better. Spoiler: you can’t. Re-enter queue. Watch as every good seat evaporates. Convince yourself that “the lower promenade on the side” is better anyway because it offers “a more holistic audio-visual experience.” For maximum suffering, repeat the process on your phone while your laptop freezes on “You’re next in line!” for eternity. The phone will time out, the laptop will crash, and the tablet will get you obstructed-view mezzanine seats. Finally, succeed accidentally. Buy tickets for the wrong night, realize it overlaps with your cousin’s wedding, and rationalize that it’s “fine” because the setlist will be 73% identical anyway. Optional step: Immediately check the resale prices, experience instant regret, and write a 600-word forum post beginning with “I dunno… I haven’t bought tickets in a while like this.”
never been a rush fan, but i have several fans who LOVE them and they are unanimously unhappy about it and letting everyone know on social media. its this huge betrayal or something. i dont really get that...the surviving members want to go out and play...let em do it! from my understanding, this is more of a like a series of tribute shows to celebrate the music and all they accomplished. they arent writing new music or anything. i watched some video of that drummer and she seems more than qualified to pull off those drum parts. she was kinda funky in the clip i saw and funky is not a word i would ever use to describe neils drumming. if i was a fan i would expect her to be faithful to the parts and his feel and im sure that she will honor that.
