Did they ever call her “The Gorilla Whisperer”?

Will she be given the traditional gorilla funeral? It’s pretty brutal. The Silverback removes the head and parades around with it to reinforce his dominance while the rest of the group devours the body. I’m kidding.

She was a passionate advocate for gorillas and taught us a lot about interacting with them as well as how they live. And, I recall her fame peaked around the time the film came out…”Gorillas in the Mist” I believe it was? But, the way she put herself in with a gorilla group to become basically accepted in their circle was something else if not a bit crazy. It was unforgettable and inspirational.

My most enduring memory of Jane Goodall was 40+ years ago when she learned from a chimpanzee "war" that humans were not unique from all other animals in our capacity for violence and organized, premeditated murder.

Agreed. I didn't realize she was still alive.

She left a legacy, for sure.

You're thinking of Dian Fossey, who died 40 years ago.

Indeed. Chimpanzees can be crazy, violent, tribal creatures. And they're our closest living relative. Shocking!

During a family picnic one summer I got annoyed with everyone and went off by myself to eat a sandwich in the woods. As I ate, an older woman appeared in the far off brush with a cameraman by her side. As they filmed me, I asked what she was doing. She appeared to be startled by my words. She apologized profusely and left. I later found out it was none other than Jane Goodall. What the hell?

D’oh! Yea…she was killed by the poachers they think. Sorry, Jane.
