I think the Trump threat of using the shutdown to layoff more workers isn't effective anymore since he already did that with DOGE. The fact that they are having to rehire a bunch of those laid off means that even the cronies realize that federal workers actually do their job and there's a lot of work to do. I'm for a shutdown too. Sadly Americans don't appreciate what the government actually does and maybe a wake up call is needed to restore that appreciation. Edit: I also realize that I speak from someone that doesn't rely on any low income assistance, but at some point if you are constantly voting for policies that are not in your interest you need to get what you voted for.
One (of many) problems the Dems have is that they cannot trust any deal that gets made. If you have an administration that ignores Congress and spends money on what it wants and doesn't spend money on what it doesn't like, and then the Republican Congress okays that with a recission bill passed with bare majorities--not to mention an administration that constantly lies, even in congressional hearings--there is no basis for believing any deal would be carried through.

I prefer not to have a shutdown but after the gop lied last time and the Dems fell for it, I can see it. It sucks for the workers who will get Fired. Standing for the right of millions who will lose Insurance or their deductible will increase by a large % its a cause I can get behind.
