No way. There were lineups in 2013 that would have lost to most AA team. Today’s lineup is loaded with strikeout concerns but is actually pretty talented.
I think this entire roster needs to be retired. Too many holes in everyone's swing when it matters and not enough grind when the pressure is on. This is what you get when you focus on players that are swing happy and k prone more than contact hitters who can keep the lineup moving
This team has played well when they’re under no pressure (their early run when no one was expecting much) and has looked lost when they really needed to win games down the stretch. It seems like the opposite of a lot of recent Astros teams. Injuries ultimately killed this year, but I’m optimistic if they can replace Framber the team will be in the mix next year.
I don't feel the same way. The players on this team don't have that fire of years past. The new guys seem to play with an entitlement that this team finds a way to win but never really learned how to do so without the veterans leading the way. What we lost in Tucker and Bregman were two guys that could fire up the team when it mattered and that probably cost us about 5 wins at least this year. I hate to say it but this team is middle of the road mediocre and maybe a playoff contender in a divisional down year at best, assuming fully healthy. This team needs an attitude overhaul of guys that are gamers, willing to play through tough stretches and can get on base.
Diaz 20 hr and 70 rbi’s that’s not so bad for a catcher. If he bats 7th or 8th most games (like he should, with his plate discipline issues) that isn’t bad at all. just can’t have him in the middle of the lineup. how many times has an Astro catcher hit 20 hr’s in a season? how many times has an Astro catcher had 70 rbi’s or more?
I miss the 163rd game... at the same, I understand that expanded playoffs eliminates part of its purpose...
I agree. If healthy I would like to see the below as our everyday lineup (assuming we don't pick up or trade anyone. Paredes would be great protection for Yordan and separating Yainer and Altuve in the lineup is essential. Smith as our #9 would be a good fit until he learns the ropes. ss Pena 2b Altuve 3b Correa dh/lf Yordan 1b Paredes/Walker lf Cole c Yainer cf Meyers rf Smith Honestly, we need to have a serious discussion about Yordan as our everyday dh. Why can't he play 1st base and we trade Walker?
That just shows you that this team would get crushed in the playoffs this year when the stress is on.
You don’t blow a 3-0 lead in the first game and we’re all getting ready to celebrate another trip to the postseason. Sad
Agree. As I mentioned above, they’ve played better with no pressure and really looked like they weren’t showing up in higher pressure games at the end of the season.
