Florida sucks. Outside of a few small pockets, it is just trash. The beach isn’t even all that great and the weather sucks. I guess if you can’t afford California and South Carolina is too old - there is Florida. I am not a Yankee, but the New England area, and NYC is superior to Florida.
I find this county level male life expectancy map to be a pretty good snapshot of quality of life across america.
So all grey area of the map is <77?? Probably a decent enough proxy, but quantity <> quality, especially here in the US, where the focus is on extending life and much less on a holistic approach to living.
Yes they black/grey is under 77 - for men Im not saying people in areas with lower life expectancies are guaranteed to be living less fulfilled lives, but generally when people are doing well economically, mentally, physically, they live longer.
Interesting how you present an opinion as an empirical fact, completely disregarding everyone's needs and desires. Yes, 5 months with an average dew point of 75 sucks. But so does the constant dreary freezing temperature. All states have good areas and bad areas. The mountains are beautiful and peaceful, but remote life is isolating and depressing. Big cities tend to have great food and entertainment, but the traffic and crime sucks. Maybe be a little less judgey (leave that up to me) and accepting of others opinions. I have very little desire to visit NYC, much less live there, however there are millions who love it. Good for them! I prefer warm temp and the water. Good for me. If you don't like FL, don't visit.
It is just my opinion - I didn't bring any empirical evidence, so I thought that was clear, but I was mistaken. As for crime - I would feel safer in NYC than a lot of places in Florida, but to each their own. I personally prefer the ocean, mild to warm climate - so the weather in NYC isn't really a major selling point to me. I just personally do not think that Florida is really that great, outside of a few areas.
