People really think that Reed....who is way more athletic than both CP3 and FVV....is gonna struggle at the position because he isnt athletic enough? Alright.

    It’s a dumb narrative.
Tests show he’s a good NBA athlete.

What’s going to hold him back is his handle and overcoming youthful mistakes.

We know why you wouldn’t like Reed.

Come on, there is fandom and there is obsession, we thought that left us with Lin.

Folks fight over players again, are we in kindergarten 4 year olds.....

Those guys can fight for themselves.....they are all grown.

    You quoted the wrong person.
    That guy is a troll.
And I’m sorry, but defending facts doesn’t make anyone an obsessive fan.
I don’t even know if Reed is ready.

Same reason you didn’t like Jalen despite a better rookie season.

No, people just said he doesn't have a 42 inch vertical, nobody said what you're saying apart from Bobby when he created that straw man. The fact that you're all doubling down on the straw man instead of addressing what was ACTUALLY ****ing stated supports my argument more than yours.

It's also a narrative that doesn't exist, it was created by bobby as a straw man. Still waiting on the photographic evidence of his head within 4 inches of the rim btw.

That’s where we differ, I never bashed Jalen.
I defended him. I don’t prejudge players based on their skin color
    You? You’re a clown

    I posted a pic
I’m not going back and forth with someone that refuses to believe official testing.
Just say you have no idea what you’re talking about and move on.

It’s obvious you think players jump as high as they can every dunk.
    That says more about you

You say that. Testing says he does.

That part probably but nobody cares if he has a 42 or a 38 vertical.....as long as he is producing on the court.

Shooting the 3 is vastly different than dunking, it is so far away from the hoop.

So the narrative that has been actively pushed by people on this forum, across multiple threads, doesn't exist and max vert testing results apparently don't show what the results showed.

Doubling down on rejecting reality is weird. Thinking anyone will let you get away with it is weirder.

    There’s zero chance there’s a 4 inch discrepancy.
    Zero.

This is literally my profession, the most anyone can game a professional tester is max 1-2 inches.

Casuals tend to see quantity and confuse it for quality.

Really good post - love the statistical rigor there. However I will add, I think there is probably a fair amount of nuance there well beyond those stats. I seem to recall Reed rarely played with other team's starters last year and generally when he was in the game teams were definitely trying to hunt him causing his teammates to help. If you are playing 2nd tiered offensive players and you are causing guys like Tari to have to help you and you got a Stevo roaming the paint, that's going to help hide the sins of a less than quality defender. No shade to Reed - I think he's scrappy and has shown he does have some legit instincts getting into passing lanes and swiping the ball away from careless players but he is still a relatively small player considering most players his height are built much more stout than him.

He should come back a stronger, more skilled, and smarter version of Year 1 Reed this year - no doubt. It just seems unlikely a leap like that is necessarily going to be enough to have him holding his own against starters at this stage BUT if Reed can become a legit 2nd unit guy(who occasionally gets mixed into the starting units when the matchup is more favorable) - that's real progress and if Amen can be a first unit guy - that may be all we need for now. Reed's shooting will be in real demand for this team this year but I am skeptical he is anything more than a situational specialist at this stage because defensively he is likely going to give away more of an advantage than what he brings offensively.....unless he starts stretching the court Steph Curry style and forces guys to pick him up at half court because if he has that type of gravity on offense, he automatically gets a lot more playing time because the only thing we need more than shooting on this team is playmaking and if you are enough of a threat that teams can't help off you, that has real value to an offensive system lacking natural playmakers - Durant being the only one on the roster at the moment and maybe occasionally Amen who like Giannis needs shooters around him to maximize his effectiveness.

Pretty much what most smart Rocket fans have been saying even before the FVV injury. Call Amen a forward if you want, but he will be one of the main initiators in the half court and will lead a bunch of fast breaks (traditional PG roles). Sheppard or whoever else is sharing the backcourt with him may bring up the ball and then become mostly a spot shooter. Sheppard will get his chances to initiate the offense, but I don't expect it to happen very often.

I think he is an underrated athlete - he can definitely dart into spaces very quickly at an NBA level. I also agree with you that he is a smart guy but I think he is still learning how to make those reads quickly at NBA game time speed - its going to take a minute for the game to slow down for him(hopefully sooner than other players).

Last year he seemed like he was waiting for people to make their move earlier in the year and that was not a good look for him. It appeared he developed a little more aggression and a knack to go disrupt a player before they make their move later in the year - that's what he needs to do in the short term here - dictate tempo and not wait to be a cog in opposing offensive sets. He's probably going to continue to be a liability defensively this year but if he can win back a handful of possessions every game by just poking the ball loose or forcing a player to get out of their pattern in an offensive set - it will go a long way to making him playable by winning his minutes(provided he is shooting the ball like we all know he can).
