Hegseth orders rare, urgent meeting of hundreds of generals, admirals

I expect this is the prelude to a purge of the military of any who would uphold the Constitution over following an order that would go against it.

Is this a usual meeting or am I being paranoid?

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered hundreds of the U.S. military’s generals and admirals to gather on short notice — and without a stated reason — at a Marine Corps base in Virginia next week, sowing confusion and alarm after the Trump administration’s firing of numerous senior leaders this year.

The highly unusual directive was sent to virtually all of the military’s top commanders worldwide, according to more than a dozen people familiar with the matter. It was issued earlier this week, against the backdrop of a potential government shutdown, and as Hegseth’s overtly political moves have deepened a sense of distress among his opponents who fear that he is erasing the Defense Department’s status as a nonpartisan institution.

In a statement Thursday, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell affirmed that Hegseth “will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week,” but he offered no additional details. Parnell, a senior adviser to the defense secretary, voiced no security concerns about The Washington Post reporting on the meeting, scheduled for Tuesday in Quantico, Virginia.

Probably getting them to sign an oath to pledge unwaivering allegiance to Trump above country and the Constitution or rule of law. Sign the MAGA oath or be fired.

    Worse case scenario....

If we say Democrats are the enemy, leftists are the enemy, or any other groups not with us we deem the enemy you shall pledge loyalty to defend our country with force if needed to take out whoever Trump says is the enemy. Americans who protest against Trump shall be stopped with whatever force is needed, and if they resist, you have authorization to shoot or kill the enemy on American soil.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking. A pledge of allegiance to Donald Trump.

I mentioned it in the other thread, but they have already purged the upper echelons of commanders they didn’t approve.

LA and DC were practice runs.
    Government shutdown is approaching.
    Labeled opposition as terrorists.

They see fellow Americans as more an enemy than Putin.

    It’s about to get real…

I think and hope the majoriy of the people who would be in that room would have more integrity, but I also suspect that I may be wrong. I am confident that almost all of them have much more respect for the constitution than the gang of reprobates running things.

Anybody who would sign such a pledge should be tried for treason once we get rid of the creamsicle fascist. I would hope at least they'd understand the risk/reward for signing something that conflicts with existing oaths vs not signing, but im sure more than a few probably would roll the dice.

The Great Purge by Stalin, kicking out talented generals and replacing the with the ideologically pure is probably the main reason. Finland kicked the Soviet Union's ass a couple of times and why they still exist, so we also have a potential.major loss of competency to look forward to.

I know these generals are all about 1000× more well educated about the history than either Trump or his mouthpiece, so maybe that bodes well for Americans against fascism.

    Beside the strangeness of this...

I’ve always wondered why the U.S. takes risks like this... from the State of the Union, where most of the federal gov’s leadership is in one room, to meetings where all top generals and admirals are gathered together. Even if the security is tight and the risk is low, it’s still unnecessary exposure. If that security ever fails, you’re completely screwed. Gov continuity and military readiness shouldn’t gamble like this.

Maybe he oversteps and the military leads a coup against the illegal Trump regime.

We’ve really gotta stop not believing what is right in front of us yelling at us to our faces.

Of course Trump is seizing an opportunity to cut off the chain of command and give himself direct command of the troops. Every wannabe dictator tries this. If the generals fold which I suspect they will, they’ll be bending the knee to authorize a new chain of command where they are no more than administrators or they leave their post now in protest and are replaced with sycophants.

I would love to believe the military will stand up to a clear domestic enemy trying to overturn the constitution and install himself as king…. But I just really doubt it’ll happen. Some will resign in protest but I suspect coming out of this meeting next week the vast majority of these generals and admirals will accept whatever Kegsbreath tells them the new chain of command structure is and how it’s going to operate moving forward.

America is a relic of the past. We had a great run but we need to be honest about what we are looking at here and stop wondering if what we are seeing isn’t really happening.

It is scary. As a peacenik I hope it is just a stunt to create some fear like the Chinese or Russians are out to get us so let the usual crowd rake in more military industrial profits rather than the actual start of another use less war or proxy wars. God help us if it is a purge of non Christian nationalists or non MAGA in preparation for a coup.

The best possibility is that the are going to fire a lot generals who have not performed poorly in our losing wars and by some accounts lead lives of relative leisure with incredibly perks like fancy residences, surrounding golf courses, lots of servants and access to expensive planes to fly wherever.

Decapitating the military - straight out of the Nazi playbook again - putting in place some SUPER generals - and firing the others, and then running PROPAGANDA for these generals who will do Trump's bidding.....

That is exactly what Hitler did and IMHO, what they will be trying to do here......
