People are focusing on Reed and Amen, but really it's Point Aaron who will step up when it counts

Bring the ball down the floor by passes only. The floor is lava.

Holiday has the greatest opportunity of his entire career coming up over the next few months. He'll never have a better chance to prove his value. Make or break for him right now.

For young players that happens. I agree Reed should be given every opportunity to find his footing. With his shot, it could take this offense to a new level.

The same could be said about Tate. Tate is a fine backup. If the Rockets had a better starting lineup, he would be fine as a 7th or 8th man. The same can not be said for a typical third-string, emergency point guard or Uncle Jeff as a team's performance typically drops off when they enter the game.

Granted, Holiday needs someone else to be on ball. For someone who wants Amen on ball more, one would assume you would be fine with a guard that shoots like Holiday, and is completely fine with others creating. You seemed perfectly fine with Green playing with Amen, so we know the reason you don't like Holiday isn't a defense issue.

Softer TJ McConnell with potentially more explosive offensive game.

Holiday is a decent player, but if he's playing big minutes it means the team is in trouble. It's like arguing Boban should start or play 35mpg. People love Boban, but everyone would balk at the idea.

We can trade Holiday Oct. 8th.

Jamal Shead should be playing back in Houston Oct. 8th against the Jazz preseason.

    Reed - Shead
    Amen - Okogie
    Durant - DFS
    Bari - Tari
    Sengun - SteveO - Cap

TJ has a hot sister and Reed has a hot mom. I see the similarities.

Holiday is not a point guard. He’s an undersized shooting guard that is made to play some point because of his size. His decision making is poor and he’s foul and turnover prone. He was an nba journeyman for a reason.

Holiday is very good for the position he occupies: 4th string guard with inconsistent minutes and lots of DNPs.

How many of those shoot 40% from long range like him?

I agree but he has gotten better at shooting on home court.......he has some forte....let us not just stress the negatives.

Why is he and Justin Holiday still in the NBA, he would be Shane Larkin in Turkey or with Real Madrid/Regal Barcelona.

Jalen became a much better defensive player than Holiday. Yes, I would have rather traded FVV than Green in the Durant trade if possible, because I wanted the Rockets to open up the offense and thought Green could be traded as well for another shooting guard if need be. I think Green will be a much better player in a high speed offense. Holiday was always hunted on defense and a Reed/Holiday backcourt will be disastrous when Amen has to sit. As I have said before, losing FVV will be felt on the defensive side of the floor more than on the offensive side. Will Holiday shoot 40% from 3 on higher volume and playing against starters? Tate or Okogie might actually get the nod when Amen has to sit. I prefer either to Holiday.

This is false. Green is a better POA defender than Holiday.
The Rockets' defense with Holiday on the court was better than the OKC defense last season by a large margin. If he was always hunted, Holiday is the best defender in the game. Granted, the team's defensive numbers are great with Holiday because he, probably more than anyone else on the team, tended to play when Green was on the bench. In other words, Holiday's defense wasn't so bad that he didn't prevent/mitigate the defensive prowess of other players on the team from shining. Green's off-ball defense is horrible (he just doesn't seem to be able to focus on multiple things at once) and is horrible at defending up the defensive scale. Green's off ball defense allowed teams to get good looks even if Amen smothered the POA. Green improving as an on-ball POA defender doesn't help much when the Rockets want Amen or other better on-ball defenders at the POA. Holiday isn't spectacular, but he's not spectacularly bad either. He mostly plays within the defensive scheme, mitigating how bad a defender he is at the POA. Though, Holiday does sometimes over-gamble, but activity he plays with generally makes up for it.

I will say that a Holiday Reed defense likely doesn't work. Holiday is a negative defender and his weakness overlaps with Reed's. We know that Reed and Jalen was one of the worst pairings defensively last season. Okogie or another wing will likely need to play when Amen sits, as both Reed and Holiday will have a tough time guarding up the defensive spectrum.

I probably come off too harsh on Green. Mostly, he didn't become as good as I hoped while he was a Rocket, and he hits my pet peeves of high usage on low efficiency and weak defense. I had turned sour on Green before January, but watching him start as a guard when it became clear Amen should probably have been the 2 (or 1 with FVV as the 2) made it so much worse. Prior to then, I was frustrated with Green, but thought he was still the best option for the team starting.

I think Aaron Holiday will start and it'll be up to somebody else to push their way into the starting line up. It should be Tari Eason who fights his way in, but his inconsistent shooting will make that difficult. Reed Sheppard is not ready. I think if we fast forward to mid December nobody will be able to jump Aaron Holiday's ability to play defense and hit the three ball and the Rockets will have to start looking more seriously at trades.

Maybe Holiday gets extended minutes so we can evaluate him better, I always think that his sample size has been more than modest.

I could definitely see Ime being dumb enough to start Holiday. If there's a way he can **** up lineups and rotations, he'll do it.
