WELCOME TO DERRY: HBO Max Gives IT Prequel A Straight-To-Series Order

Pennywise is set to return, but this time he'll be terrorizing the small screen. HBO Max has given the planned It prequel show, Welcome to Derry, an official series order...

    "You'll float too!"

Last year, the news broke that Warner Bros. was working on an It prequel series for the HBO Max streaming service which would delve into the backstory of the demonic (possibly alien) entity known as Pennywise, and the show is now officially moving forward.

The trades are reporting that the streamer has given the project, which has the working title Welcome to Derry, a straight-to-series order.

It Parts 1 and 2 filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti are on board along with Jason Fuchs (It: Chapter Two) . Andy will also direct multiple instalments of the series, including the first episode

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but the show is expected to serve as a prequel story that will “expand the vision” of the recent movies.

“As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s It until the thick paperback fell to pieces,” the Muschiettis said in a statement. “It is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our It movies. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity and horror.”

“I’m excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing, and I’m glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara,” added author Stephen King. “Red balloons all around!”

hopefully the writing is good and it’s not essentially a remake of the 1st movie with different characters

the mystery…the suspense…the adrenaline rush…the emotions it can invoke from nervousness, to anxiety, to dread, to fear, to disgust, to sadness

the creativity from the kills to the creature designs etc isn’t something you’ll see in any other genre

the ability to immerse yourself in the situation if it’s well written

    it’s my favorite genre

Yeah, I absolutely cannot stand the slasher or torture p*rn type, but atmospheric creepy stuff is right in my wheelhouse.

    Coulrophobia

That's the one thing that's good about mimes, you can kick their ass and they won't make a sound.

Hey, let's make a series with a bunch of wholesome looking kids in the Steven King world where that creepy clown lives underground. That will be a sure-fire way to piggyback on Stranger Things, with the clown lair subbing for the Upside Down. And hear me out--what if we take the David Harbour role and put Black people in it? It'll also be a great way to screw over Netflix. We penciled it out and if we can hold production costs down enough, we should make a good amount with only 61% of Stranger Things viewership. If we splurge and get some familiar adult actors, we will need to increase that to 69.5%. With a good publicity campaign, we think we can push it up into the mid-70s, maybe even low 80s. Hey, what's Winona Ryder doing these days?
